AfricanFootball.com can exclusively reveal French Ligue 1 club AS Monaco have opened discussions for Nigeria U-23 captain Azubuike Okechukwu.

The 19-year-old midfielder is currently signed on to Yeni Malatyaspor in the Turkish PTT1 League, but following an impressive debut season in Europe, he is now a target for several European clubs, with Monaco understood to be ahead of the queue.

AfricanFootball.com has been informed that the French outfit have opened discussions with Malatyaspor, after failing with an initial bid during the January transfer window.

“There are a lot of clubs who have shown interest in him, but Monaco are in the forefront and have even opened discussions with his present club,” a source confirmed.

Azubuike, who has already been capped by the Super Eagles, is presently in Nigeria with the Nigeria Olympic team and will lead them to the United States for the final phase of preparations for the Rio Olympic Games.www
