eaglechild: Nope, its your comparison that is lame, the analogy remains robust. In the case of Scotland, it was already a country of its own (with Edinburgh as its capital) but is within the United Kingdom. There are four countries (England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland) which together make up the sovereign state of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland The South East is not a country of its own, but a region within Nigeria, which is why the entire country must vote for the referendum. If a country is to be disintegrated via a referendum, the majority of that country's voting population must vote in favour. QED. |

It is over 100 years since the amalgamation of this unworkable entity called Nigeria. At the wake of so much revolt and incessant self determination movements within the country, we need to have a referendum so as to determine the Will of the people. It was British prime minister that called for a referendum, so if PMB thinks he has courage he should do the same. 1 Like |

fulanimafia:lol! Stop going round in circles. An independence referendum is decided by the members of the region that wish to break away be it a country or not. The simple reason the rest of the UK did NOT vote. Even though the issue affects them directly. The Welsh cannot decide for the Scots if they wish to be in the UK. Same for Catalonia in Spain. They are not a country yet it is only Catalonians that can vote in a referendum to decide if they wish to remain in Spain or not. Stop trying to outsmart yourself. 2 Likes |

If Cameron's resignation is a demonstration of courage that means all our leaders here are cowards cos I have not seen any of them resign, no matter how ugly things get for them in their offices. Even when a vote of no confidence is passed on them they still look for ways to cling to power and position... |

fulanimafia: Go and read how Eritrea and south Sudan referendum was conducted. You don't even have to go far...go and read how Cameroon referendum was conducted. There was agreement between Scottish and UK government for referendum to be administered afterall, similar to biafra and ND, Scottish indigenous had to protest, and fight before UK agreed to do as the people wish. So spare us your story telling Secondly, why would the rest of Nigeria be involved in referendum about Biafra . Are the rest of Nigeria going to join Biafra? What sought of backwards thinking do you have? When Cameroon did their referendum did the rest of Nigeria vote with them? When midwest did a referendum to be carved out of western region. Did the rest of western nation vote with them? Infact let's do one closer....did the rest of countries in EU vote with British about staying or leaving EU? 2 Likes |
