The Acting Inspector General of Police, Mr. Ibrahim Idris, has ordered policemen and officers especially those in the mobile unit to rise up and nip the security challenges in the country in bud.

Idris said this at the passing out parade of squadron commanders seminar/combat operation course at the Police Mobile Force Training School, Ila Orangun on Saturday.

Idris said, ” This training is coming at a very crucial time when the present administration of President Muhammadu Buhari is determined to build a police force capable of combating emerging security challenges such as kidnapping, militancy, insurgency/ terrorism, communal clashes , cattle rustling and a host of other organised crimes.

“However, going by the training acquired in the past three weeks, I have no doubt that you will translate these strategic professional competences into actionable realities.

“in the light of the above, I urge you all to rise up to this challenge by channeling these skills towards nipping emergent crimes in the bud.”

The new IG identified corruption as a factor holding back the police from performing primarily, but promised to tackle this issue for a better delivery.

He said he would consolidate on the solid foundation built by his predecessor by using the IGP Monitoring Unit and X-Squad to ensure that the root cause of corruption was exterminated.

The IG said that as part of measures to stop corruption and in line with the anti-corruption mantra, his administration would ensure that all commissioned officers from the rank of assistant superintendent of police to the IGP declare their assets.

“This initiative is aimed at checking the activities of corrupt officers and deterring others from indulging in corrupt practice. The obvious implication of unprofessional conducts will attract serious disciplinary measures,” he added.
