Efcc Freezes Obanikoro's Sons 5 Account by Category1: 10:45am On Jun 26, 2016
– The EFCC has frozen bank accounts of Sen. Iyiola Omisore, a former deputy governor of Osun state, and two sons of Sen. Musiliu Obanikoro, a former minister of state of defence

– The restricitve measure was taken as part of the investigations into the N4.7bn diverted from the imprest account of the Office of the National Security Adviser

Sen. Iyiola Omisore, a former deputy governor of Osun state, and two sons of Sen. Musiliu Obanikoro, a former minister of state of defence, now don’t have access to five of their bank accounts, Vanguard reports.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have recently frozen the following accounts — Sylvan McNamara (number 0026223714 with Diamond Bank); Sawanara Limited with First Bank; Fimex Gilt Limited with the United Bank for Africa; and Metropolitan Consortium with First Bank.

Tthe anti-graft agency is currently investigating the misappropriation the N4.7bn from the imprest account of the Office of the former National Security Adviser (NSA) Lt. Col. Sambo Dasuki (retd.).

A detective at the anti-graft agency explained the issue: “On July 9, 2014, N150m was paid into the account of Sawanara with First Bank. On August 1, 2014, N300m was paid to Sawanara Limited. On August 8, 2014, about N160m was paid into the account of Fimex Gilt Limited domiciled with UBA.

On the day of the election, August 9, 2014, N350m was paid into the First Bank account of Metropolitan Consortium. All the accounts were linked to Omisore ahead of the August 2014 governorship election in Osun State.”

Recall that the EFCC had declared Omisore wanted for reportedly receiving and misappropriating over N700 million from the office of the NSA in 2014, as part of the election scandal in Ekiti state.

Besides, there were reports about N1.3billion was allegedly paid into three accounts of Omisore from the Sylvan McNamara account in four tranches a few weeks before the Osun state governorship election which he lost to Rauf Aregbesola.

Reacting to the allegations the former deputy governor denied his role in the infamous Ekitigate election scandal and had since sued the EFCC for defamation.
