Today at Court (6) of the Federal High Court sitting at Abuja, with Justice Kolawole Presiding, the case between KCA DEUTAG Nigeria Ltd (APC gubernatorial Candidate – Godwin Obaseki’s company) versus House of Representatives of the National Assembly of the Federal Republic of Nigeria was listed and called.

Court papers
Court papers
Before the court was a Motion on Notice filed by the plaintiff (KCA DEUTAG Nig Ltd) asking the court to stop and restrain the defendants (House of Representatives Committees on Public Petition and Local Content) and their privies from investigating the case of fraud and to also stop them from requesting for the documents of the company from henceforth.

Godwin Obaseki fraud case

Barrister Uzoma Azikiwe of Udo Udoma & Bello Osagie and Associates appeared for KCA DEUTAG while Barrister F.S.S Ojealaro announced his appearance for the Executors of the Estate of Late Chief Irikefe Idisi who were sued as the 6th-11th defendants.

The House of Representatives sent no legal representation.

Barr Ojealaro informed the court that his clients have not been served with the originating and other processes of the matter and thus cannot argue the motion before the court. He further submitted that his clients wrote the petition to the National Assembly that led to the matter before the court and thus positing that they are not mere nominal parties but very interested party to the suit.

Despite that, counsel to the Plaintiff sought to move the court to hear the motion arguing that it is the National Assembly, not the Idisi family, that their prayers specifically requested to come and show cause why an order of injunction should not be made against them.

The learned Justice ruled that the Idisi Family represented by F.S.S Ojealaro Esq are entitled to be heard on this matter as interested party. They can only do that if they are served with the processes.

The court so ordered and adjourned the matter to the 28th day of September, 2016.

The clear implication of this is that, for now, there is no substantive order or orders from any court restraining the House of Representatives from investigating the case of fraud against Godwin Obaseki and his company. It remains to be seen how this case will affect the nomination of Mr Obaseki as APC flag bearer.

Meanwhile, the family of Obaseki has today pulled down their family website www.obaseki.org following exposure by Urhokpota Reporters that, from the information posted on the Obaseki Family website, they admitted that the Obaseki family originated from Nsukwa in Delta state. According to the website that has been pulled down today, Obaseki was not the name of the family but a title that they received when the former palace servant, little Oyoo, of Prince Erediauwa who became Oba Adolo, became free and earned a title in Benin at his later years.

The Obaseki family gave no reason for pulling down the website.

Chai!! Politics is a very dirty game.

Lots of enemies trying to catch you at your weakest point and bring your deepest secret to light, all for the purpose of bringing about your downfall.
