The Chairman, Globacom Group, Mike Adenuga Jnr, has finally delivered on his promise to be the first Nigerian and sole company to crash the price of bandwidth and ensuring that there is rejuvenation in telephony in Africa by the arrival of Glo 1.
In the past, the feat used to be achieved by a consortium of countries, and it is the first project to be embarked upon by any single organisation in the world. The practice all over the world is for organisations or countries to team up and build such facility. For instance, the SAT 3 is owned by 23 African countries and when Glo promised to achieve the unachievable then, there was some sort of disbelief among critics until the dream became a reality.
The much expected Glo submarine cable finally arrived the shores of Nigeria on Saturday morning (5th September) having travelled from the United Kingdom (UK) through several coastal countries. The multi-million dollar contract was awarded to Alcatel –Lucent of France, who are leaders in submarine cabling, while the cable is 9,800 Km long to carry data and internet traffic between Nigeria and the rest of the world.

Leading telecommunications company, Globacom, today marks its sixth anniversary. The national operator commenced business on August 29, 2003, with the launch of its GSM service in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja. It was the 4th GSM service provider to launch operations, two years after other operators had rolled out.

Globacom has promised to bring economic prosperity to Africa with its Glo 1 submarine cable project.
The laying of the cables is to make efficient broadband Internet services available in West Africa.
A Nigerian publication, ThisDay newspaper, has quoted Globacom Group Executive Director (GED), Paddy Adenuga as saying, “Globacom will stimulate a new era of prosperity in the continent by offering cheap, fast and reliable international calls, unprecedented fast access to the internet and revolutionary data transfer”.

As of today, I personally believe that solution to our everlasting power supply problems could simply be solved by the guru, Mike Adenuga.
This man has proven himself to be greatly competent not only as a business man, but also as a natural ingredient to success.
His natural bullheadedness, his pure dedication, his prodigious vision, his gigantic stamina and his immense wisdom can not be matched

The point he is making is if Adenuga(& his company Glo) could single handedly embark on this feat of no mean proportion. . . then they could emphasis on could tackle the perennial & ubiquitous lack of power in the country. . .QED  tongue

Yes. This is the point the OP is trying to make.

Lets pray he looks in the direction of investment in power supply too.

It is unfortunate the Yorubas presented a spent force as their presidential candidate in 1999, now the SW is awash with examplry leaders like Fashola, Mike Adenuga and a few others who can take Nigeria to the promise land but these up and coming young men would not be giving the chance.

But then no other Yoruba leader would have being accepted back in 1999, OBJ was the only consensus candidate that could have being accepted nationwide by virtue of his earlier stint in power.[ As a Yoruba man I feel embarass by what his regime acheive./color]

Pinpoint?  No problem.

Nigeria as a great African nation fails to supply her citizens with constant power supply for over 40 years.
Many attempts have been made, in fact the last administration spent over 16b dollars to correct this problem, but severely failed.
It has also been confirmed that Nigeria is losing over 500m dollars daily because of electric power failure.
And finally, we will never notice any great improvement in our troublesome economy for the next 30 years if something unprecedented isn't done to correct this national deficiency

From what I've listed, what do you think is missing?

Yorubas voted for Olu Falae in 1999, Obasanjo lost in his own street in Ogun State to Falae.
The Hausas voted OBJ in, not the Yorubas.
Get your facts right.

I think the point threadstarter was trying to get across is, if Adenuga can solve Nigeria's Telephony problems then he can definitely do same with electricity.

The solution to our electricity problem in Nigeria is to have every state control their power the supply.

I think the constitution says if a state generate electricity, it must add it to the national grind, that is why foreign companies are not investing a lot in electricity.

This is the fault of the inept FG of Nigeria and not that of Mike Adenuga and his type. The telecoms sector has being deregulated and Adenuga , even as a 'latecomer' , went on to prove that West Africans can excel and be pacesetters in the highly competitive Telecom markets. Deregulate the power sector and Adenuga will probably be there setting the pace for others. He is Nigeria's Richard Branson.

Especially likeable about Adenuga is his constant desire to provide consumers with value-for-money service that often forces the hands of other greedy operators . I remember how South African owned MTN , back then , stated that per-second billing could not be 'facilitated' on their network in Nigeria . As soon as Adenuga concluded plans to give Nigerians per-second billing with his Glo network MTN 'miraculously' developed the ability to provide per-second billing !!!!!We should think of how we can get the likes of Adenuga involved in leadership rather than the feudalistic , unexposed and divisive leaders Nigeria has been cursed with so far.

this is actually very funny. my friends came down from france to visit me in nigeria few months ago and the joke of their trip was, nigerians are walking around with 2 to 3 cell phones per citizen, but they have no constant electric power to charge the phones.
they concluded that instead of running around with extra phones, the entire population should sell their extra cell phones and donate the money towards implementing constant power supply, may be that will solve our problem.

the only missing thing is: lack of intelligent citizens. nothing will be solved until we realize that we are foolish people.

This is the kind of post that makes ma belly sweet! cool

Adeunga, unlike many who are classified as billionaires based on direct access to state power, is real visionary and a better example to the younger generation. We need more Nigerians like him!

This is why I admire the man. The likes of Dangote, Otedola and co are primarily monopolistic and protectionist businessmen concerned mainly with their 'stash' and how to make it grow. Adenuga is gaining a deserved reputation for being something of an ethical businessmen with how he has consistently refused to patronise Africans with cheap and archaic technology when , like others , he could get away with it !!!! Adenuga has always spent more money than many of his less-ethical competitors are prepared to in his attempt to deliver good value , rather than exploitative  services , because of his mantra that "Africa and Africans deserve the best".

I have followed the story of Globacom and it is clear that Adenuga is a brilliant and philantrophic man who rates top-notch service delivery ahead of the type of crass profiteering common amongst Enterpreneurs in their dealings with Africa and Africans. The man has stated , even if a tad tongue-in-cheek , that he is prepared to operate at a loss to please his customers and aid the development of Africa and Africans. More grease to his elbow. Everything must not be left to the FG. The very rich should do their bit also.

Exploiting Nigeria for personal gain. Only for the fact they have money to influence the government, which is the reason why their billionaires.
