Why Is Pidgin English Not Taught Officially In Nigeria? by Donbrig: 8:45pm On Jul 07, 2016 |
I've been wondering how a language like pidgin English that is widely spoken all over Nigeria is yet to be officially taught as a subject in our learning institutions. I think it is high time we take pidgin English to a very high level and polish it a bit. Even our politicians use it often during campaigns and some other African countries also speak pidgin English. Sometimes, I wonder how the western world would have packaged and polish pidgin English if it were to be their language. 26 Likes 1 Share |

Quakertellicus1: Have you ever thought of the effect it will have on students if they were taught Maths in pidgin? As in breaking all those vocabularies into pidgin? We could call it Nigerian English, if youve not seen foreigners trying to learn pidgin i have seen, even here on NL. 13 Likes 2 Shares |

You no need go school of Pidgin make you learn am, as na almost everybody dey speak for country e dey easy to learn, imagine sey you dey teach onyibo man how to speak him onyibo language Last Last nobi everybody gangan the Ajebo thm go wan make people catch the dey speak am na so that come no want make people dey learn am for school You don't need a School of Pidgin English to learn it.. Being the most used Language in the country it's so easy to Learn, Imagine teaching an English man English.. Lastly not all especially the elites want to be caught speaking it, therefore they deem it not fit to be taught in schools 2 Likes 3 Shares |

its really bad dat federal govt failed to recognise it.its the most widely spoken language in nigeria. Jamaica recognises their patois;haiti also see creole as their official language.i dont know y fed.govt is not doing same....i guess its low self esteem. Its the unifying language in nigeria and states like edo( number one pidgin state in the country) and delta, state, that are polyglotic in nature. The problem with pidgin is,it varies with villages, towns, cities, states and region.benin and sapele pidgin should be made official. 12 Likes 2 Shares |

I see no reason why it should be taught rather focus should be on our younger ones learning and speaking our local languages because many are heading to extinction. 8 Likes 1 Share |

Let's try and be serious for once , wth would you allow your kid to learn pidgin in school . Most kids can't even speak their mother tongue and you're asking why pidgin isn't taught in schools ... Nah , I wouldn't let my kidbe part of it . It's ridiculous . 4 Likes 1 Share |

Quakertellicus1: I don't think u know what u re saying. I could give u magazines and books written in standard pigin English. You forget that the English u so much pride in today had to go through many transformations over many centuries to appear standardised. Even at that it is still evolving. We are the one to standardise it. It won't standardise itself 7 Likes 2 Shares |

Is pigin English a language or coined language. How will they teach a coined language in school?? For example, if they have Yoruba as subject, they will also have ijebu Yoruba as another subject and also ondo Yoruba as another subject and so on 3 Likes 1 Share |
