Celebrating an Apostle of the Gospel as The Apostolic Church NIgeria (LAWNA) Celebrate 40th Convention.
Read the History of:
Late Pastor Sakpo Sakpo, Isaiah Ghele
1912 to 1993
The Apostolic Church Nigeria

Isaiah Ghele Sakpo was born into an Anglican family at Uzere in Isoko Local Government Area in the present Delta State of Nigeria on October 12, 1912. His father was Papa Daniel Akpakakpa Osakpo and his mother was Mama Pricilla Amafeto Osakpo.
Papa Daniel Osakpo was instrumental in the introduction of christianity to the Uzere community through the Anglican Church at a time
when when idol worship and paganism was prevalent in Africa.
He was opposed, to the point of persecution,
by people in his community, for daring to introduce christianity. It might be said that the Lord blessed him for his perseverance by providing him with a son like I.G. Sakpo, who grew up to achieve even more than his
father.

Sakpo started his education at the age of eight at the Anglican School Uzere in 1920. He moved to Warri to attend government school from 1925 to 1926, and then on to Abonnema to continue his studies at the government school in 1927. From 1928 to 1930 he was in Lagos, completing his education at St. Peter's Faji Primary School.

He obtained his Government Class Two (middle)
in 1930. He further distinguished himself among his peers by obtaining certificates in typewriting, stenography and English. Between 1936 and 1940 he attended the International Bible School Pennygroes in the United Kingdom for his theological training.

Having distinguished himself academically, it was easy for Sakpo to get a job in one of the best establishments of the time. He was employed as a clerk then as a confidential secretary in the civil service at the Old Government Secretariat in Lagos from 1945 to 1949.

Sakpo married Miss Comfort Titilola Bajomo on April 1,1948. Mrs. Sakpo later became a deaconess in the church and served for many years as the headmistress of the Apostolic Primary School Ebute-Metta. After retiring from teaching in 1969, Mrs. Sakpo became involved in full-time ministry.

Read the History of:
Late Pastor Jemigbon Samuel Sunday
1934 to 2009
The Apostolic Church (T.A.C)Nigeria

Third LAWNA territorial chairman and second national vice-president of the Apostolic Church Nigeria; president, Christian Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (C.P.F.N.).

Family Background, Early Education, Conversion and Marriage....

Samuel Sunday Jemigbon was born to a Muslim father and a Christian mother: Pa Elewusu Ikuejemigbon (shortened to Jemigbon) of Ayeh-Gbede in the Old Kabba province of the present Kogi State of Nigeria, and Madam Rhoda Ikuejemigbon (née Omogbonewore).

As he was born on Sunday, March 4, 1934, he was given the name Sunday, though his original name given by his father was Sadiku, in consonance with his father's religion. He was the last born of his parent's four children and the only male child.

His father was not just a Muslim; he equally combined African native medicine practice with his Islamic religion. He was, in fact, the leader of the herbal practitioners (native medicine healers) in his community.
But as mentioned earlier, his mother was a devout
Christian like Monica, the mother of St. Augustine of Hippo. She was a member of the Apostolic Church in the community.

Sunday could be called a child of promise. His parents had had three daughters and no son. Because of this, his mother was in constant prayer to God for a male child.
She attended a revival program where his birth was foretold by prophetess Leah of the Apostolic Church from Ilesa who visited Ayeh-Gbede to do evangelical work in 1933.
Prophetess Leah, in her revival message on Okuta Ako Mountain in Gbede, allegedly foretold that
God had brought two male children to the revival
ground and had given them to those looking for them. Two women present at the revival looking for a male child each gave birth to a son nine months after the revival. They were Rachel Omoboni, who gave birth to Daniel, and Rhoda Ikujemigbon, who gave birth to Sadiku (Sunday).

However, in spite of the prophecy, Sadiku in early
childhood followed his father's religion. He was enrolled in a Quranic School at an early age, and became versed in Quranic recitation. He grew up to be a staunch Muslim and was opposed to his mother's religion which he hated with passion owing to his Islamic indoctrination.

It was said that he hated walking by or passing through church buildings. In fact, at one time, he vowed to his friends that he would never in his life enter a church.
The story of his conversion to Christianity was funny and dramatic. In 1948, one of his friends who was a Christian by name, Matthew Ibikunle (a son of a leading prophet in the Apostolic Church) one day conspired with some other friends to trick him into entering the church.
When the bell for Sunday School rang, he gave the
books he was taking to Sunday School to Sadiku to hold for him with the excuse that he wanted to relieve himself.
Unknown to Sadiku, Matthew took another direction and went to the church. He then sent for
Sadiku to bring his books to him saying that he needed them urgently in the Sunday School class. Matthew had secretly arranged for his other friends to immediately carry Sadiku inside the church building if he came onto the church premises.
Sadiku, being ignorant of the plan, went to the church to deliver the books. The friends surrounded him and carried him inside the church auditorium. They then began to shout: "Sadiku has entered into the church; you are a member of Sunday School."
This supposed child-play became the instrument
God used to set his feet on his path to divine destiny. The embarrassment dealt him such a devastating blow that going to the Quranic school or mosque that day became a thing of shame to him.

Like Monica, the mother of Augustine, his mother at this point seized upon this opportunity. She pacified him and consequently played a great role in introducing him to Jesus the Savior. She
influenced him to follow her to church programs.

He was consequently converted to Christianity and baptized, thus, changing his name from Sadiku to Samuel.

Celebrating an Hero of the Gospel as The Apostolic Church NIgeria (LAWNA) Celebrate 40th Convention.

Read the History of: Late Pastor Okon

Okon, Eyo Edet 1914 to 2010
The Apostolic Church (T.A.C) Nigeria

Eyo Edet Okon was the first indigenous president of the Apostolic Church in Nigeria.
He joined the church in 1932 and rose through the ranks to become its national president in 1981. He held this position until his death in 2010.

Birth and Family Background...
Okon was born on June 10, 1914, to Chief Edet Okon Itam also known as Edet Hogan Ambo of Atimgba Essien family, Ekpe Oku Royal House in Mbarakom, Creek Town, Odukpani Local Government Area of Cross River State.
His mother was Madam Aya Uda Okon Itam of
Effiat Inua Abasi, near James Town in the same Cross River State of Nigeria. He was the fifth male and ninth child of his father’s fourteen children.
Calabar was one of the gateways of Christianity in what is today known as Nigeria.

Creek Town, where Edet Okon was born, is on the coastal inlet of the Cross River, about three nautical miles from old Calabar. It had the
prominence of being the contact point of the early
European missionaries to that part of south eastern Nigeria. Today Creek Town has monuments to notable explorers and missionaries such as Richard Lander and Mary Slessor, the legendary woman who fought against
the killing of twins in old Calabar.

Many relics of that past history can still be found in the town. Among these is the tomb of Mary Slessor, which still stands at Okoyong, a notable area within the region.

Education Chief Okon, Eyo’s father, had a good plan for his son. He realized the importance of education in human development and had decided to give his son the best of what was available. In 1919, at age five, Eyo was
enrolled at the Church of Scotland Mission School, Creek Town.
He obtained his Standard Six Certificate in 1929. He followed the footsteps of Essien Edet Okon, the
renowned Hope Waddell mathematics teacher (his elder brother), popularly called “Okon Geometry.” He began training for the teaching profession, and in 1930 he obtained the basic qualification for enrolment in study for the teaching profession. Consequently, he was engaged as a teacher in the same school from 1930 to1931.

He later studied theology at the Apostolic Church
Bible College, Penygroes, Great Britain, in the 1950s. This was followed by a diploma in theology from The Apostolic Bible College, Obot Idim, Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, in 1962.

His search for godly knowledge led him to attend other international biblical training institutes in
the United States, Denmark, and Britain.
Ministry Okon was born a Presbyterian but he later fellowshipped with The Apostolic Church (TAC) following the introduction of the church to Creek Town and through divine instruction, joined the new church.

He described the situation thus:
