First, let me enlighten you on the name “ Mbaise” and the people of Mbaise in general. Mbaise people are Igbos, intensely religious, mainly Christians and about 90% Catholics with the rest comprising protestants and other persuasions. They have a strong attachment to what pertains to Mbaise, and to one another. Mbaise people are hardworking people, an attribute that makes them envied by those who detest competition. They readily come for each others help. They are so religious that Rome recognized the pre-eminat position of Mbaise in the production of priests by naming their cathedral Mater-Ecclesia →Mother of the Church.
Who said that Mbaise Catholic Diocese, a diocese with more than 400 priests, a diocese called the Ireland of Catholicism in Nigeria, a diocese called the mother of the church (Mater Ecclesia), a diocese with intelligent priests, with all level of degrees, level of education and profession, cannot produce a bishop of their own?
It would be recalled that in 1987 Ahiara catholic diocese was carved out from then Owerri, and had it’s first bishop as Bishop Chikwe who died on 16th September 2010.It would also be recalled that a year after the death of Bishop Chinkwe, 3 Priests were nominated for the post of the bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Ahiara; but some priest wrote petition to Rome, because of the people nominated, giving reasons why; they should not be allowed to become the bishop of the Cathoic diocese of Ahiara; Note, Rome did not force these men on Ahiara diocese, that they must be bishop of Ahiara diocese.
