@op i beg to disagree with you. I reside in kaduna. Though the price of tomato has dropped but a basket going for 800 naira is unbelievable.

I don't know about other parts in the country. But it has come down here in Kaduna. Not sure of the current price to be honest.
Can you explain what factors that brought the price down?

If you happen to reside or serve in the north, you wouldn't disbelieve the news.
I remember there were times I would tell my tomato seller to reduce it coz it's too much for 50 naira and put pepper instead.

Learn to believe good news, everything ain't propaganda.
North is too far. Around nsukka in Enugu dat is a bit close to the north, I dare not use tomato #50 to cook one pot of stew. Don't mind that dude praying for Nigeria to get worse, I really don't know wat dey stand to gain if Buhari fails.

Treated and pest resistant seeds and plants were imported from Turkey and a few other countries. Just confirmed that it's 1,200 for a basket here in Kaduna.

I wish our leaders would start asking questions; like, how come we're able to solve this problem without foreign help? How come we have enough tomatoes grown by Nigerians? How come we're not importing tomatoes?

A scientific examination of these simple questions would suddenly open their eyes to the true meaning of education, and that farmers are the most educated group of people in Africa. And if they probe further they'll realize its because the acquisition of agricultural knowledge is done in our native languages across Africa- a research I've done.

The OP stated that "A small basket of tomato, which sold for N25,000 in May, is now going for N800 in Kaduna. And, no, it is not a joke".

KADUNA not lagos etc. They produce tomatoes over there.
