Buhari Ban Importation Of Rice But Allows Importation Of Grasses Into The Countr by Nobody: 8:16pm On Aug 11, 2016
The Senate Committee on Agriculture has thrown its weight behind the proposed plan of the President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration to import grasses for grazing from Brazil and they have directed the central bank to subsidise dollar at #197 to a dollar.
Chairman, Senate Committee on Agriculture and Rural Development, Senator Abdullahi Adamu yesterday said the move to support the plan of the current government became imperative as the importation of grazing pastures for cattle at designated places across the country will bring an end to the lingering crises between herdsmen and their host communities.

Adamu, however, berated some professors of agriculture for criticising the move by the Federal Government.

He criticised the inability of the professors to proffer solutions to the problem of grazing over the years, adding that they lacked any moral right to criticise the government’s move.

The Committee Chairman maintained that importing grazing grasses and making them available to “cattle rearers would put a stop to movement of cattle from one place to another and also end the feud between herdsmen and farmers.”

He said, “In the United States, pastures and water were provided to grow nutritious grasses for cattle’s sustenance.

“The government must face the reality of the moment by taking some painful decisions to end the herdsmen and farmers’ clashes.

“There are no easy fixes to the problem.”

It could be recalled that the Minister of Agriculture, Chief Audu Ogbeh, had recently revealed that the Federal Government was making plans to import grass from Brazil in a bid to put a stop to the consistent crises between farmers and herdsmen.

Ogbeh had claimed that President Muhammadu Buhari was putting up grazing fields for herdsmen across the country where the imported grasses would be kept.

Cattle don't eat rice but grass. In the Fulani philosophy, cattle are more precious than humans. So don't be surprise!

Are really this unintelligent or u just refused to see the truth??

We banned importation of rice to improve our local production and to reduce dollar demand (this in turn will help naira stabilise and create employment)

As for the importation of grass they are ment to be planted, for cows to eat and this would bost meat production, it's more like importing improved seeds for farming, u can buy cow n train if u wish

Nigerians are really unintelligent really.... If u still can see that our economy is being diversified then u are dull

The unintelligence is actually intentional, most of these guys opening these threads aren't actually dumb in reality. Most times they just feign ignorance for argument's sake; although we can't rule out the fact that sometimes, the trauma of their election loss actually gets on the way of their objective reasoning.

Reread your post again and check if it makes sense

Going by your reasoning the same thing should be done to our oil and gas industry :bann the importation of fuel so that we can build our local refineries and produce our own fuel. Why hasn't this been done yet?

Is Nigeria producing enough rice to sustain us at a reasonable cost? NO. So why bann rice importation when local production is not yet adequate? Reason am small na, people are suffering due to the high cost of rice, it doesn't make sense.
