The inability of the colonized to rule itself amid series of crisis (elections and census) since 1963 suggests that even if Nigeria splits, the same nightmares will hunt the newly birthed nation.
We are naturally consumed by intolerance and do or die power struggle. For example, there was the
election crisis of 1965 in the Western region "which
threatened to split the country at its seams."Hence,
the writers at that time "knew that something was
very wrong in Nigeria. A fix was long overdue." It was a battle between two sons of the soil: Awolowo and Akintola. What is my point precisely? The call for secession is mouth-watering and very welcoming, but the challenges are herculean because they wouldn't be different from what we have experienced. Even the glaring division within each of the southern geo- political zones proves that. The only saving grace is to embrace a positive attitude and mentality.
