Its just a political power play. Muslims do not make up to 30%in that state to be conservative. Ekiti and Ondo states have low Muslim population and, if a power play is talked into play by Muslim groups, they may never have a member in any government.
However, Yoruba don't play religious politics, its just a digression to create awareness's for their groups
bros where did you hear that one from?

Every tribe play religious politics.. Its even deep amongst yorubas. The only difference is we don't allow religion to control us unlike some people.

Do you think ambode would have won in Lagos if he is another Muslim?

They can as well test their popularity by insisting on having a Christian governor and let's see how they prove their point of having 500,000 voters like they claim.

The best they can achieve in that state at the moment is becoming the deputy governor. It's almost an unwritten rule to have a Muslim governor in Ondo or Ekiti state just the way it's almost impossible to have a Christian governor in Kwara, Niger or Kogi State. Even when Gbenga Faleke almost got it, the North and Muslim ummah scuttled it and smuggled in Yaya Bello.

However with the way those guys marry many wives and procreate, it's a matter of time before they take over Christian environments. Bearing in mind that most christian guys marry only one wife and hardly have more than 2 or 3 children, these days. I won't be surprised if a similar call is made in Edo or Delta in some years to come.

I would have shared your hope and confidence of a political structure in the SW devoid of religious sentiments but a new wind has began blowing over the SW and that is a political movement promoting nationalism over sacred Yoruba ideology of freedom of political and religious expression.

There are more opponents of the likes of Fayose and FFK in Yoruba land than there are in the north.

When Olu Falae was kidnapped by Fulani herdsmen who attacked his farm, there were more doubts from the same SW questioning the octogerian elder statesman and chieftain of the once revered Afinifere.

A cursory look at these doubting Thomases who went as far as calling Falae a liar saw that they were mainly drawn from the APC and Muslim fold among Yorubas.

They took a cue from their lord and master, Tinubu who in an attempt to promote himself supreme in all spheres of Yoruba life, started the insults on Afenifere and the revered stools of Obas in Yoruba land.

To these misfits, Tinubu is lord, Nigeria is supreme even above Yoruba expectations and traditions and the northern Islamic front absolute.

If you doubt me, I will be posting links of topics created by Yoruba Muslims in the "Muslim for Muslims only" section to show you how these your brothers and sisters reason.

Post them pls.

Go to any higher institution in the SW and you will see first hand the growing level of radicalization among Yoruba Muslim students.

The problem may not have yet started showing on the streets but give it a couple of years and these radical elements will be in position to change Yoruba politics forever.

The likes of Amir Sanusi where instrumental in furthering the radical Islamic and pro northern movement in universities with their Muslim Student Society. Today those guys are in power and their Islamization agenda is on full swing.

Give Yoruba land at least 10 yrs from now and you will see religion playing a crucial role and determinant in yet heir local politics.
very wrong..

Most Yoruba youths are actually embracing knowledge away from religion these days.. 10 years from now, there would be more less religious people.

5years ago, you hardly see someone that is skeptic about religion. today, 1 out of 10 people, you will at least one skeptic.

While I strongly condemn this line of thinking of the Ondo Muslims, it is important to note that other states in the SW that are Muslim majority especially Osun have always been sensitive to the feelings of non Muslims, so saying Muslims are in minority in Ondo would be foolish
Osun even twice had Christians as both governor and deputy(Oyinlola's administration), despite being a Muslim majority state.

While that shouldn't be the yardstick for voting (and it has never been in the SW before), I think it isn't out of place to accommodate Muslims, maybe the as the deputy.

Nonetheless, I still think it is dumb to vote based on religious lines. I, for instance haven't benefited anything from Buhari, (a fellow Muslim since he assumed office), so what's the fuss about religion here.

Just vote who you feel will serve you better, even if an atheist
God bless you, you are very correct, we should vote our choice and don't bring religion into it. Electorate, please remember that we don't need politicians, they needs us and they won't remember or do anything good for us when they enter government so we should not kill ourselves for them becos they are not worth anything to injure ourselves.

Just as expected. Yorubas should stop changing the rhetorics on this thread, our continuous stay in "one Nigeria" will spell doom for us. Humans are social animals that are very sensitive to change. The new change in Nigeria is religious bigotry, sadly enough, it's beginning to creep in into the minds of the youths, mostly the radicalised undergraduates. Ask yourself this question, which notable Yoruba Muslim supported GEJ in the last election? We are all a living witness to the politics played by the imams on their loyal subjects. We should leave Nigeria before we are doomed....

now that the Muslims feel marginalized , others see it as been normal, since is against the Muslims. one should asked , is it fair enough not to have any representation? if it was Muslim - Muslim ticket now , Muslims will still be blamed .

We should stop living in the past, even if hitherto, votes were strictly on merit, the reality on ground in our Yoruba of today negates such assertion. Negative influence is taking toll on us already, we need exit the union that's indoctrinating us..One Nigeria is the union

I cherish your intelligent response. Yoruba has one spirituality and it is Ifa. This is the traditional Yoruba worship and divinity. We didn't have religion in Yorubaland but it was first brought to us through contact with Sufis, Muslim scholars of Mali who were settled in Ilorin on the authority of Alaafin. Next was contact with slave abolitionists who settled Christian missionaries in Abeokuta. Neither Islam nor Christianity is strong enough to change the spirituality of Yoruba. At the core, a Yoruba, muslim or christian, will still have reverence for the divinities of Ifa. So when Christians in Lagos say we need a Christian Governor, I ask....how does the faith of a Governor bring you closer to your God? Alas, what they are asking for is political balance.

So to the muslims of Ondo, were they not fasting under Mimiko, did they not go to Hajj under Mimiko, did Mimiko stop people from congregating in mosque? No. So what's the noise? Their grievance is simple political balance, that's all! Then give it to them.

Ifa ask us to respect the middle way. In other words, maintain balance between the extremities. Yorubas must live true to our spirituality which calls for balance. Representation in our communities and societies and leadership must be balanced.

I support the muslims in their call and hope our leaders will invite them and hear the input for what its worth.

There is No other word for this your Response then #Absolute #Sense... you are one of the reason why culture still exist

You don't seem to be able to filter political antagonism from religious ones. How do you differentiate muslims from christians among the Yoruba if a muslim chose not to put an islamic name as part of his names. Attacks based on political affilliation has always been part of the Yoruba political history and its evidently clear that when power changes hands things can turn around. Who even told you that those attacks did not originate from their own foes in their own camps?
Politics is a bitter thing among Yoruba i know that but religion? i will say forget it, they will certainly rise above that.

Again, stop lying to yourself...97% of Buhari diehehe-hard fans from Yoruba are muslims(majorly Osun, Oyo, Ogun)... While Buhari indifferent supporters (still his fan because of tribal attachment to ACN now APC) and buhari opponents are Yoruba christians(majorly Ekiti, Ondo etc)...Ever wondered the PDP vs APC supremacy in those states
