I have almost completed the construction of my bakery, I want to have an idea how much are the staff paid? Should I make it commission based or salary based? I want to give them a competitive pay.

Hello op ...its simple. You have to employ bakery assistant they get the lowest around 20- 35 depending on your bakery capacity. Their job is to wash pans , slice bread and every other job except for mixing and baking. A mixer you pay around 25-40 and a baker around 30-45. But you must be sure you employ a mixer and baker with expertise.

first of all it all depends on the number of bags you want to produce daily, what you pay your baker is different from what u will pay your mixer/operator, table boys and pan cleaners. their salaries varies from their work stations

My guardian currently have bakery in 4 different states in Nigeria and this is how he used to do it:

He firstly ensured that all his pan are coated, so no need to do much cleaning everyday or employed people for cleaning.

He pays weekly and there is hierarchy for his workers in this sequence


The baker that handles that stick collects between 1500-2000# daily

Their assistants 1200-1500#

And the apprentice 1000-1200#

Ur wages per week depends on the number of number of works you do for that week.


And it is usually 2 bags of flour per individual.

If 8 people are working, that's 16 bags for that shift.

There are many workers there, so not all them work on daily basis.

I have just received my trademark acceptance next is nafdac but everything is ready apart from the buses and ingredients.

1. Have experience in any fmcg retailing.

2. SSCE with credits in English and Mathematics.

3. Fluency in English (Yoruba, though not compulsory, will be an advantage).

I think u should concentrate more on making ur products better than that of other bakeries...

Thank you very much, have already interviewed experienced mixer and baker, infact the mixer is my production manager, we started everything together, I want pay above my competitors cos I want the best and I have given myself a one year profit moratorium all that will matter to me is market penetration in the beginning

In Lagos here around iyana-ipaja a friend of mine was collecting 120k as the supervisor in the bakery not manager o

Haba , na oil company?

70k for supervisor(Experienced)
50k for bakers/mixer(Experienced)
40k for molders
40k for Drivers
35k for Cup/pan cleaners
30k for sweepers/security.
20k (basic and the rest will be on commission upon sales) for sales guys

Its a new place and you need to be sure your production will be able to pay these guys.

For you not to be cheated, you must know the quantity of loaves a bag produces, you must have idea of bread making or else you will find it difficult to cope in that business.

Investor aka shareholder, trying to protect his business interests?
The perception of paying above average, is a misnomer. Workers/employees are very unique in attitude to work, once comfortable and understand the ropes, ethical employee / investor / employer relationships, is not often regarded.

I have bought two plots of land in Oyo State, Ogbomosho to be precise. Recently, the idea of bakery comes to my mind: can you please expatiate about the start up and capital requirement? I have no idea about the business at all.
