Lagos scored highest in culture and environment, followed by infrastructure. It scored lowest in stability.

Actually, it is you who tragically misses the point.
What they mean by that is that, out of the indices in which Lagos was scored, it was in culture and infrastructure that it got its highest scores, NOT that it scored highest among those other countries.

Let me elaborate. Supposing you sit for a JAMB exam of 4 subjects (English, Maths, Physics, Chemistry) with 100 questions for each of those subjects (for a total JAMB score of 400), and your scores end up like this:

English - 16
Maths - 29
Physics 35
Chemistry - 11
Meaning a JAMB score of 91/400.

With a pathetic result like that, it can be deduced that you scored your highest at Physics, followed by Mathematics, but scored your lowest at Chemistry. That doesn't mean you emerged the overall best Physics candidate and also ranked overall 2nd best Mathematics candidate. It JUST means those were the subjects you got your highest scores.
It doesn't change the fact that you're an epic failure. And you also still won't be gaining admission into any university with that type of score.

The problem with majority of Nairalanders is that they can't have a discussion without tribalism or displaying their ignorance. I read the article on The Economist and they're correct.

Albeit, Lagos is Nigeria's most developed city and commercial hub, however, the city has a long way to go in infrastructure, pollution eradication, water supply, greenery, pedestrian track, quality health care for its residents etc. Generally, most African cities are not fit for a healthy lifestyle; noise everywhere, dirts, poorly constructed roads, pollution.

We need to invest in infrastructure and most importantly in human capital development because no matter how developed an area might be if her residents aren't properly educated, it's of no use.


Nigerians need to stop this their suffering and smiling attitude. It's embarrassing and sickening.

But you see many Nigerians come out here and make noise about the gutter they live in while PRAISING their oppressors (politicians) for PATCHING up a road.

Infrastructural decay isn't even Nigeria's biggest problem.

Some of these white people that come up with these useless statistics are just plain dumb. I was taking the report serious until I came across this quote as their reason for such poor ranking of Lagos: "Continued threats from groups like Boko Haram acts as a constraint to improving stability in Lagos". Please how does Boko Haram that hold sway in far away North-Eastern part of the country have any kind of direct effect on Lagos? Instead of our people to read and question the objectivity of this report, they see as an opportunity to instigate a tribal war and bash Yorubas like Lagos is solely occupied by Yorubas. Really unfortunate.
