The much publicized Rio 2016 Olympics has come and gone, but as Nigerians, there are lessons to be learned. There's is a popular adage often attributed to Benjamin Franklin, the father of time management, "failing to plan is planning to fail". The quote may sound like music to your ears, but planning for business analysis work is very key not only to business, but all spheres of human development.
This is arguably not the first time writers have written about Nigeria's dismal performances in major global competitions, but it is time we adopted early planning programs before the commencement of any major competitive events in the near future. Even though, the Olympics was established to foster unity and preach peaceful co-existence among nations states, it must also be seen as a way of showcasing talents and how countries are committed to nation-building especially in the area of youth development, nonetheless the current economic and socio-political situations of such a country.

Restructuring an economy should not be used as an excuse to deprive talented Nigerian youths memorable opportunities to ably represent their fatherland. It saddens to see Nigerian citizens that were born and raised on the Nigerian soil, pledging allegiance to the countries of their naturalization and winning medals for such countries.
For instance, I watched a Nigerian American, Miss Morolake Akinosun from South West Nigeria, winning a gold medal for the United States. This is absolutely a big shame for youth development program in Nigeria.
However, the Tokyo Olympics is a day less than 4 years as from today. We are tired of going back to the drawing board, but we must start preparation in earnest. The likes of the USA, Canada , Australia , France and other sport enthusiastic nations will never wait until the last minute before doing the right thing at the right time.
For Nigeria to get things right,we must shun all forms of ethnic and religious bigotry-about which set of tribes or personalities will represent Nigeria in either Sports A or Sport B. In addition, our government must promote sport development by developing a "sport road map" thus aimed at catching talents right from early stage of life.Nigerians are tired of hiring the services of foreign mercenies at sporting events. A typical example are the Men's Basketball team, D'Tigers.
Disburse funds on time for early preparation, provide up to date sporting equipments, appoint sport administrators, not politicians like the present sport Minister, Solomon Dalung.

Consequently, submit sponsorship proposals to different multinationals on time. They will be ready to assist only when you submit your proposals on time. Instill discipline among the athletes-nobody should be given the privilege to hold the country into ransome. Above all,the Nigerian government should not interfere unduly into sports activities except than to provide adequate supports both morally and financially, these are the surest ways of moving Nigerian sport development to a greater height. If all these mechanisms are put into place, Nigeria will be a force to be reckoned within the sporting world and Nigeria will moved from the 78th position in the just concluded RIO Olympics to the first twentieth position in the forthcoming Olympics which will take place in Tokyo in the year 2020.
