David Lynch’s narratively non-linear, néo-noir masterpiece Mulholland Drive has been named the best film of the 21st century to date by 177 film critics from 36 countries.

The list also includes the critically-revered but audience-frustrating Terrence Malick movie The Tree of Life (2011) and Richard Linklater’s 12 years in the making Boyhood (2014).
