The US dominates the Olympics because there is an enormous American talent pool. The US population is huge and most people are healthy; having been well-nourished with access to good medical care.

American Athletes are hero-worshiped and successful athletes are extremely well-paid so many youngsters dream of a career in sports. When lot of people are competing for the top positions, those who reach the top are extremely good.

Americans have access to all kinds of sports as children and young people. Chances are that if a kid has natural athletic talent, he or she will find a sport that he or she excels at. Sports facilities are easy to find and for the most part, affordable to most Americans.

Since sports are such a big deal in the US and most parents have fewer children, decent resources and at least some leisure time, American parents are willing and able to support an ambitious young athlete’s training. It takes a tremendous amount of money and time to support a kid’s training to the point where he or she is an Olympic-class athlete.
