I think the issue of what is allowed by the conscience is relative. Some cultures may permit marrying a distant relation while some don't. Those that allow will never feel guilty marrying such relatives.

Even is religions, there are things allowed which the practitioner will not see as a sin but a non practitioner will cringe from doing same.
