You need to understand that apart from fire, the next most dreaded enemy of your PC, especially laptop PCs is dust. Dust causes a heavy dose of problems for electronics generally especially PCs. Dust accumulated over time causes a lot of havoc to your PC, so you need to try as much as possible to keep your PC away from dust. It may not be possible to keep your PC away from dust 100%, but it is worth it you try all you can to reduce the amount of dust that makes contact with your PC to the barest minimum. Dust and debris cause problems to your PCs keyboard, microprocessor, Memory (RAM) and ultimately your motherboard among other PC hardware components. Listed below are some of the reasons why you need to keep your PC away from dust by all possible means.

Keyboard: It is worth knowing that keyboard is damaged by dust, liquid spill and heat, with dust topping the list. Accumulated dust and debris over a PCs keyboard causes malfunction and in some cases damages the keyboard entirely. The keyboard, especially in laptops seems to receive the most negative effect of dusts due to the fact that it is the most exposed hardware component that is grossly affected by dust negatively. When the dust accumulates over time on the keyboard, the keyboard fluctuates in its functions, and in some laptops, you would notice that some keys seems to “press” themselves. You would notice that letters appear without anyone pressing any key or button. Dusting and blowing your keyboard with a blower from time to time can remedy this problem, or at least reduce it; keeping your PC away from dust is the ultimate way to stay from keyboard problems caused by dust.

Memory (RAM): The top cause for RAM failures in desktop PCs is dust. Accumulated dust on the RAM covers the metal/electrical parts of the memory that is supposed to make adequate contact with the motherboard thereby reducing the efficiency and communication between these components. When these debris accumulates over time on the RAM, it ultimately leads to RAM failure.

Overheating: It can never be overemphasized here on naijalaptopfix.com that DUST IS THE MAJOR CAUSE OF OVERHEATING IN PCs. Your PCs cooling system functions as your car’s radiator, the difference between them is that most PCs cooling medium is air while the cooling medium in cars is water. When dust accumulates over time on your PCs heat sink, it blocks the air vents, ultimately leading to overheating. You can find more information on overheating on this post.

Life expectancy: PC components (especially the microprocessor and the RAM) covered in dust gets hotter as they are being used or operated than they were designed to. Heat in itself reduces the life expectancy of the motherboard. The motherboard is the mother of every component on the PC because every component in the PC is directly or indirectly connected to the motherboard.

It is easy, convenient and cost effective to keep your PC away from dust and debris as they would, over time bring undesirable effects to your PC. Your PC need to be routinely dusted for it to function well! Keep your PC away from dust!

No one can avoid dust. Clean periodically. If you're comfortable cracking your laptop open, do so, if not, visit a specialist.
