A business either sells products or services. Oftentimes, people wait for an individual, corporate organisations, or a small business set up by another individual to employ them before they earn a living.. There is nothing fundamentally wrong with that. It is the way of the world system. However, the reality is that what an unemployed person lack is vision /direction. Schooled or unschooled, graduate or uneducated, with or without certificate; what every human being require to survive in this world is a vision/direction towards a specific purpose.
1. That you acquired an education is because you or your parents encouraged you towards that direction pursuant to a purpose - career; and ultimately to earn a living.
2. That you never went further in education, but chose a vocational skill area, for instance trading, is a DIRECTION chosen towards a purpose.
The question then is; why do we acquire certificated education and end up idle, unemployed and complaining about a lack of job? The answer lies in the fact that society(or parents) ENCOURAGED/PERSUADED you at the first instance towards a DIRECTION that would lead to a particular purpose. In the second instance, you need to take personal responsibility to drive yourself in a direction towards that same specific life purpose. Those who are lucky to be employed are actually DRIVEN by employers who GIVE them TASKS. The unemployed therefore are looking for a man, woman or organisation to GIVE them a TASK! You wonder why someone in suit, probably given a company branded car would unashamedly market the products and services of that company gleefully to every Tom, Dick and Harry but as soon as he/she is fired, feels hopeless; cannot even sell any personal product gleefully to clients to survive! Why is that?
It therefore brings up another set of self evaluating questions; Did your initial chosen DIRECTION prepare you towards fulfilling TASKS that you might find to accomplish? If yes, why are you not DRIVING yourself to fulfill a task that could earn you a living? And if not, why not retool your skill sets towards assigning yourself a task that could be rewarding?
These questions and the answers to them could help us define the difference between employers and employees. The truth is that it is not everyone who would build a business entity and assign tasks to others. But if you are not helping another individual, business etc to build, why not start a TASK-Fulfilling business today?
CAPITAL
One restraining resource that young people often find as an obstacle to starting a venture is capital. But what is capital? Three dictionary definitions of capital as applicable include;
a. Already produced durable goods available for use as a factor of production, such as equipment and structures.
b. Money and wealth. The means to acquire goods and services.
c. Knowledge, awareness; proficiency
Most people see liquid cash - money as the only resource known as capital. That, from our definitions above is only partly true. Let me use the illustration of the Cart and the Horse.
The Horse represents the man. The Cart represents the capital. The business is the defined task of moving goods to clients in particular destinations whereby you are paid for your services or goods. The Horse must therefore be healthy, knowledgeable about her direction/vision and possess power. The goods to be delivered are carried in the Cart. In this picture, what are the most important parts of the business? The Cart? I don't think so! There's even a saying that you do not put the Cart before the Horse, motion wise I guess.
Here's the thing!
You actually need the Cart to be effective. But if you focus on your direction/vision and task, the Cart should be the least to worry about and it would surely come if you don't have one at the moment. The Horse needs to know his plan, his routes, his clients, have Horse power, competence, intelligence, ability and skills needed to deliver the goods/services. The goods/services come about through intellectual knowledge and its accurate application. Once that capacity is built, what stops the Horse for instance from strapping the goods to his body for the first and probably second runs to clients? Opportunity meets with preparation! While on the way, perhaps he could meet people with empty Carts or even a wheel-barrow guy says " hey buddy, I could lend you this to your destination" or he could ask to borrow. They place the items in the Barrow-Cart, tie it to the Horse somehow and pronto, he makes delivery giving the man a free Horse ride. Money comes and a Cart is bought!
This may sound pretty simplistic but starting small may come with challenges which may be overcome with wise improvisations until one arrives at the promised land.
One type of business that I recommend for start-ups are service related businesses where your skill is primarily your product. An example of such service based business is mobile phones repair services. A skilled repair technician has capacity to earn loads of money fixing today's smartphones without investing so much cash capital.
Are you still waiting to be lead? To be given a task by someone? Be the leader - lead yourself! You may need to acquire the relevant skills you need through committed learning in books, seminars, workshops or apprenticeships. There is a saying that if you want to hide knowledge from an African, put it in a book!
For those interested in technical entrepreneurship knowledge especially in the mobile computing devices category, the book "Mobile Phones and Tablets Repairs : A Complete Guide for Beginners and Professionals " is a must have. You can get it from Amazon marketplace today. In two months of its release, it has sold thousands of copies world wide. It is the first complete book on Mobile Phone repairs. Mobile phones have become an inextricable part of humans. Considering the world's billions of population, this is a huge market that can never run out of demand. Tap into it.
Are you just watching films with that your laptop? Turn it into a money making device! Screw driver sets could be gotten for as low as N700! Digital multimeters cost as low as N600! This is one of the lowest cost start up business with high income generation.
