Mimiko self. Instead of you to say you have transfer the patient to Irrua Specialist Hospital where they have the best doctor & equipment that can treat/manage the disease you are saying you have transfer the patient back to Edo where he came from.

wow, that hospital is such a big hospital, have been there once, nice environment and good facilities wink

So they couldn't treat him right there in Ondo State? Or are we no longer in the same Nigeria and same Nigerian citizens?
Must he be sent back like someone who's repatriated from another country?
I don't even understand my country at all.

No pls, I think Edo state has the best facility for treating Lassa fever in the entire southern Nigeria. The main place where confirmation test can be carried out is in Irua in esan, Edo state. I believe they also have standard equipment to better manage laser patients in Edo than any other state both in the East/Western Nigeria. At a time, Irua in Edo was the only place where you can confirm Lasser/Ebola infections.

Sent a sick patient back to sender? Rather than quarantine the patient at the host state? Imagine the level and extent of contamination back and forth?
I thought we were ONE NIGERIA?

No wahala, it wasn't that it can't be treated in Benin, the guy thought it was ordinary malaria as at when he got to Ondo till the Med test prove other-wise.
Hospitals in Benin including UBTH are equal to the task.

Official madness. Rather than quarantine the victim and commence treatment, they send him back to where he came from increasing the chances of more infection and being contacted by other persons because I doubt if they even put him in a sterile vehicle to sufficiently curb any possible spread. Yet someone says the state was being proactive!

Let me help you understand. Edo State is where the treatment centre in Nigeria is located, somewhere in Irrua. If you are driving from Ekpoma to Auchi, it is along the road.

Tu comprende?

Really? Sending an infective patient all the way back to where he came from and making noise about it like it was the right thing to do?
Health commissioner and head of public health need to be sacked for showing how stupid they are.
Certainly know nothing about infection control.

Now they have put more people at risk all the way back to Edo state.

I really hope he was sent to a designated treatment centre with full precautions rather than just sent back to his hometown to die.

Nigerian journalist and sensational headlines. The patient was not sent back to Edo state because he came from there rather IRRUA SPECIALIST HOSPITAL is the only LASSA fever centre in South south, even when I was on posting in UBTH last session, all LASSA fever cases are referred to IRRUA where they have the facilties

What's the hoopla about? The patient must have been referred to the Irrua Specialist Teaching Hospital in Edo State which is THE #1 health facility dedicated to the research and treatment of Lassa Fever in Nigeria and WEST AFRICA.

The title of this thread is mischievous.

Why do I have a feeling the person involved was sent to a center that had the capacity to manage lassa fever and other infectious diseases like it?

Quarantine him and let him die?

Or transport him to a center designated for the treatment of his disease with professionals who have been trained to do so?

He doesn't need a sterile vehicle. What's needed is for the vehicle to be sterilized after he's been dropped off..

Commence treatment by whom?
People not trained to do so?
I hope you do know that those that treat infectious diseases receive special trainings to do so?
Again, quarantine where?
Hope you equally know that quarantine facilities are not available in most general hospitals.
In Lagos for example, there's a specific general Hospital that handles infectious diseases. If you catch any cases in other general hospitals, you refer to that particular one.
Even in the era of ebola, there were designated hospitals to handle such cases

And given the fact that Mimiko built "solid" health infrastructures across the state and even a university of health sciences. With all these, they could not contain a public epidemic. It will be a big shame if APC doesn't sweep the vote in the forthcoming elections.

I put the blame on Punch. They made the headline sensational to drive traffic. If you don't read the story well you will think the patient was repatriated.
