TheSuperNerd:
IS PROSPER OJUKWU NIGERIA’S FUTURE
RASHEED YEKINI?

The Etisalat U-15 School Cup was one that
brought the whole country together. With the
best two teams from four regions battling for
ultimate glory in Lagos, the tournament lived up
to its billing of ‘connecting champions.’

While Asegun Comprehensive High School
representing Oyo State came out on top in the
final by defeating Folsa Academy from the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) 4-3 on penalties after it ended 2-2 in regular time, it was the performance of Folsa’s Prosper Ojukwu that stood out in the entire competition.

The captain of the Abuja side scored a staggering 20 goals in the school competition. He bagged 14 goals during the regionals held in Ilorin, Kwara State with the highlight being his eight goals in his team’s 8-0 thrashing of Government Day Secondary School, Plateau State. He then added six goals more in the national finals but it was rather unfortunate all of that didn’t translate to title triumph.

That however does not hide the brilliance of this young lad.

Ojukwu was the star man of the competition as
he bagged the Cliqlite Man of the Match award
three times, something no other player could
boast of. While one can sympathise with his team not laying hold of the trophy, this teenage
sensation must be celebrated as a future
prospect for Nigerian football.

Prosper Ojukwu has picked Manchester City and Nigeria’s Kelechi Iheanacho as well as Paris Saint Germain’s Angel Di Maria as his role models with the desire to play for Manchester United in future.

While these are fantastic players to idolise
particularly Iheanacho whose fine performances
for both the Citizens and Super Eagles has given
youngsters hope that the future is very bright for the country’s football.

Prosper’s brilliance has led some to compare him with the legendary Rasheed Yekini. What else would Yekini be known for if not goals. In a 14 year stint with the Super Eagles, the Kwara state native bagged 37 goals in 58 appearances, making him Nigeria’s leading marksman. Since the late forward retired from the national scene in 1998, no one has come close to matching that number. Could Ojukwu be the one to look out for in breaking it?

Yekini was known to be very physical, having
loads of strength and agility. This enabled him to
get ahead of defenders into the goalscoring
positions. This can also be attributed to Ojukwu.
He constantly got the better of defenders in the
Etisalat U-15 School Cup and the result was that
he scored goals for fun.

The Folsa man is an effective shooter, with his left, the stronger foot. Prosper also possesses great pace which he uses to good effect on the field of play. Ojukwu was the captain of Folsa Academy and he was a charismatic leader on the pitch ensuring his side kept their heads up even when moments were frantic. Would he be the future Super Eagles captain?

Nigerian Midfielder Dubbed The New Obi Mikel, Uwakwe On Target Again For Chelsea

England U18 international Tariq Uwakwe continued his brilliant run of form with a goal in Chelsea’s 5-0 rout of Cardiff City in the FA Youth Cup on Tuesday evening at Aldershot.

Having played several games for the U18s in recent weeks, the midfielder started on the bench and was introduced before the start of the second half with Chelsea looking for an insurance goal and aiming to protect their slim one-goal advantage.

Uwakwe doubled the Blues advantage twelve minutes out of intermission, finishing off a move he had started, before Ike Ugbo scored two more goals in the space of five minutes.

In the first week of December, the 17-year-old netted on his debut for the U23s in their win versus FC Nuremberg, and has found the net three times in the U18 Premier League.

Because of Uwakwe’s versatility in midfield and defense, he has drawn comparisons with Super Eagles skipper John Obi Mikel.

Nigeria U20 Defender Lukman Zakari Rated
Among Top 20 Upcoming Defenders In The
World

Nigeria youth international Lukman Zakari is in
the list of best 20 young defenders under the age of 18 in the world according to Italian publication Tuttosport.

In a review of the best 20 upcoming defenders in the world, the highly respected Italian publication named the soon to be 18 years old in the list on the account of his strong showing for Nigeria at the World Youth Championship in Chile.

Zakari was ever present for the Nigeria U17 as
they romped to the World Crown in Chile last
year, and he was one of the few bright sparks
from their ill fated Africa Youth Championship

He has been linked to several teams in Europe

All efforts by Owngoalnigeria.com to reach the
defender proved abortive, and even his adviser

Villarreal Number 10 Eyes Super Eagles Call
Up After Dazzling Display Against Rivers
United

Former Nigeria U-17 midfielder Jack Ipalibo who
played for Spanish side Villarreal in their 0-1 loss
to Nigeria League runners up Rivers United says
he moved to the Spanish side in order to get the
attention of the Nigeria national team handlers.

Jackie as he is fondly called by close friends and
associates left the camp of the Nigeria U-20
during preparations for their ill fated Africa Youth Championship Qualifiers to team up with the Spanish side, where he has grown into one of the integral players of the B team.

“It is the dream of every professional footballer to play for his country at senior level and I am no different.

“One of the major reasons why I came to Europe is because I want to achieve this desire to play for the Super Eagles one day,”

“I will advise young players like me who want to
make it in Europe to be disciplined when they get here because it is not easy to make it at this
level,” he said.

Man City And Leicester City Running The Rule On Little Known Nigerian Forward Idris “Kanu II” Kanu

Manchester City and Leicester City have checked up on Aldershot Town striker Idris Kanu.

The 17-year-old former West Ham academy player joined National League Aldershot in October after a trial spell at Manchester United and has impressed in their first team.

The pacey youngster scored his third for the club with a sublime solo effort against Boreham Wood earlier this month and is catching the eye of teams further up the pyramid, with Reading also reported to be monitoring the situation.

Kanu was at West Ham’s academy last season, scoring twice in 17 appearances, and can play up front or in midfield.

After his goal against the Wood Kanu penned a full-time contract that ties him to the Shots until 2019 but at that level the deal serves only to ensure the club is compensated when the player moves on and will not put off potential suitors.

Aldershot boss Gary Waddock promised to help develop the youngster after seeing him sign his two-year deal.

Kanu is eligible to represent England as his country of birth as well as Nigeria through his parental lineage.

Exclusive: Flying Eagles Star Samuel Chukwueze Move To Porto Is Off

Allnigeriasoccer.com understands Nigeria U20 international Samuel Chukwueze has seen a move to Porto fall through, contrary to sensational reports in the local media that he is set to return to Portugal and be registered for the UEFA Youth League.

It is believed that talks between Diamond Academy and Porto broke down after the dismissal of coach Jose Peseiro in June 2016, and the Nigerian club have confirmed that he is no longer joining the Primeira Liga powerhouse.

Chukwueze and his representatives are in talks with teams based in Spain, Belgium and Italy, and a decision regarding the future of the winger could be made as early as next month.

He was heavily linked with a move to Arsenal after starring at the 2015 Fifa U17s but talks broke down because Diamond Academy objected to the mode of payment of his transfer fee.

Everton Whizkid Lookman Wants Barcelona, Real Madrid , Manchester United Move

Everton teenage sensation Ademola Lookman is eyeing a move to Real Madrid, Barcelona and Manchester United
because he wants to win silverware.

The 19-year-old made headlines on Sunday when he netted on his debut for the Toffees in their 4-0 rout of Manchester City in the Premier League.

“One day I want to win trophies. Of course I want to play at the highest level – whether it be in England or Spain, I want to be at the top,” Lookman told The Sun.

“You have teams like Barcelona and Real Madrid.

“As a kid, I dreamed of playing for one of those teams and I suppose Manchester United.”

A product of Charlton Athletic, Lookman is contracted to Everton until the end of the 2020-2021 season.

Celtic Urged To Sign Manchester City Young Star Adarabioyo

Scottish Premiership side Celtic have been urged to sign Manchester City’sNigerian defender Tosin Adarabioyo.

The 19-year-old can start talking to potential suitors this month with his contract at the Etihad Stadium outfit set to run out at the end of this season.

HITC reporter Danny Owen thinks a move to Celtic would benefit Adarabioyo because he could be handed more regular game time under Brendan Rodgers, who has a record for nurturing talents.

In recent years, Celtic have done transfer business with the Citizens, with Patrick Roberts joining the club on loan and the permanent signing of Dedryck Boyata.

Tosin Adarabioyo has played nonstop at Manchester City for fourteen years and has only four first-team appearances to his name.

Everton Boss To Make Late Decision On Nigerian Wonderkids Ahead Of FA Cup Tie

Everton manager David Moyes has refused to rule out Nigerian wonderkids Joel Asoro and Josh Maja from Tuesday’s Emirates FA Cup tie against Burnley.

With the Black Cats facing an injury crisis and a couple of players representing their nations at the 2017 African Cup of Nations, the promising strikers have made the match day squad for recent fixtures including last weekend’s loss to Stoke City in the Premier League.

“At the moment we don’t have an awful lot of resources, ” Moyes told the club’s official webpage.

“Our numbers are down but we will get players back from injury and we will get players back from the Africa Cup of Nations, but in this period we are short.

“We’ve not decided on what team we’ve got or what we will go with, so we will make that decision over the coming days.”

While Asoro has played three games for the first team in the current campaign, Maja’s solitary appearance was against Queens Park Rangers in the League Cup.

NFF Technical Director : We Will Convince Everton Striker Lookman To Play For Nigeria

Technical Director of the Nigeria Football Federation, Bitrus Bewarang, is optimistic that Everton new kid on the block Ademola Lookman will pledge his international future to the Super Eagles rather than his country of birth, England.

The Southwark-born striker has been sounded out about the possibility of representing Nigeria at senior level, and a source close to the situation informed that he would love to continue playing for the English youth teams for now, with the next big event on the Fifa calendar, the U20 World Cup, on the horizon.

But Bewarang has insisted that Lookman is in the plans of the Nigeria Football Federation, and a call-up to the national team appears imminent.

“The Super Eagles coach has been combing Europe for youthful players and players on current form who are playing for their clubs,” said Bewarang to
allnigeriasoccer.com.

“We will soon start the African Cup of Nations qualifiers, most of these players will be exposed. We are taking the AFCON and World Cup qualifiers seriously.”

He added :“I saw Lookman against Manchester City, he scored a beautiful goal. We are taking note of him because he can be called up.

“Selection is done by the coach, we will try to draw his attention to the player if he doesn’t know him already.

“We have to talk to him and convince him to play for Nigeria, it’s a good development for Nigerian football.”

The 19-year-old Lookman first played for England at U19 level before he was promoted to the U20 squad.

I don't understand how this boy is still not in a big European academy or club, European scouts are snoozing, this boy is too good for Tunisia clubs...same with kingsly Michael...it shows we still have a long way to go in terms of getting the deserved clubs for our stars, maybe if we had not sucked so much in the past things would not be this way...we are getting there

Aliyu Mahmoud- How Ajax Amsterdam Beat
Arsenal, West Ham To Talented 15 Year Old Nigerian Kid

Talented Nigerian kid Aliyu Mahmoud who
recently signed a pre contract agreement with
Ajax Amsterdam few days ago could have ended up at West Ham or Arsenal, if the English teams were proactive in their approach.

Mahmoud who was spotted in England by scouts of Ajax during a game for his school team was first sighted by scouts from West Ham and Arsenal.

However Arsenal wanted the 15 year old to wait till the summer, when they would have released some of their young lads before running the rule on the Mutunchi Academy prospect.

West-Ham on their part, made contact with his
parents but didn’t follow up their interest two
months after sounding out the soon to be 16 year old left foot dazzler.

Ajax Amsterdam stole a march on the Premiership duo by moving in swiftly for him with a trial opportunity which the teen accepted and impressed during his one week stay with their U16s.

As exclusively reported by Owngoalnigeria.com,
he will spend time with Ajax South African
franchise Ajax Cape Town, from where his
progress will be monitored by the Dutch giants.
