Lokpobiri said , “For your information, we spend about $22bn a year importing food into Nigeria. We know how many more dollars … and that is why you see the price of rice going up.

“Price of rice was N12,000 some months ago, but it is now about N26,000 and if we don’t start producing, by December it could be N40,000.

“Rice matures in three months. So, this is a wake up call for Bayelsa people to take the four farms we have seriously. The federal government has four farms in the state in our records. The average land you see in Bayelsa can grow rice, so the colonial masters were not wrong in their assessment when they said Niger Delta could feed not only Nigeria but the entire West Africa sub-region.

“Unfortunately, agriculture till today, is not a priority of the Niger Delta as far as the state governments are concerned because of oil.”

A man who does not read has no advantage over a man who cannot read. Educated children of hate and anger who do not read are worse than almajaris who cannot read.

Go over the paragraphs which I have quoted and tell me if you do deserve the school certificates that you are holding. The honourable minister was telling Niger Deltans that Agriculture is the future of the region and not oil and militancy, so they should start their future now by going into farming, yet you useless fools are crying and wailing your future away, later you will say the North and the South West have snatched your future from you.

9JA BIBLE on the trend(APC Chapter 1)

1. And it came to pass, when the Lord would punish Nigeria, that he gave them a president under whose hand they were mightily oppressed.
2. Before he ascended the throne, he made them hope, with all manner of promises, that he would bring them to the promised land before the coming year began.
3. Thus the inhabitants of Nigeria grew restless with their good condition, and sorely vexed the president under whose hand they had prospered, so that he would not have the office of the president again, but rather resented it.
4. In those days also the Boko haramites laid siege to the north, and slew of the people three and twenty thousand, intending to set up a kingdom which would be ruled by Islam.
5. Thus the inhabitants of Nigeria remembered not the good deeds of Jonathan, but thrust him out of the throne, and made Buhari president in his stead.
6. Buhari was seventy and(?) years old when he began to reign. He reigned one and a half years in Nigeria, and the land became impoverished under him.
7. He persecuted also a few of the people, accusing them and casting them into prison. Thus, the opposition was subdued, the people could not find bread to eat and there was hunger in the land.
8. And the end become uncertain as there was wailing and gnashing of teeth
Jehovah Lord God is punishing 9jerians 4 their sins, there will b severe hunger in d land,it is only those that repent & endureth to d end shall b save, unrepentant wailers shall die of hunger.

From Oby Ezekwesili

I still find it funny that most people
don't know why Nigeria economy
went into recession, they love the
incompetent lies of Lai Mohammed
about the past government ruining
everything. It's also myopic to think
that if Jonathan were to still be in
power, we would be worse off.
The truth about Nigeria's recession
is this; it was caused by the
president's unguided rhetoric and
uncultured body language.
Firstly, there is nothing we are
buying today that we weren't buying
5 years ago, therefore it's not our
purchase that put pressure on Naira
but withdrawal of funds by foreign
investors.
After the election, the president
created instability with his unguided
statements about how everyone is
corrupt and how everyone is going to
jail. The instability made foreign
investors to liquidate their
investment and change their money
to dollars. In the process of trying to
flee, they were willing to buy dollars
at any price, which lead to high
exchange dollar rate.
Even though some of them were not
ready to run away, but want their
money in dollars to save their
investments from devaluation, the
president gave a bad signal by
banning deposit of foreign currency
into dormiciliary accounts. That was
enough for free market believers to
see the draconian handwriting on
the wall, that was the beginning of
dollar rush.
To make matters worse, the
president came up with another
outrageous policy of rationing dollar
to certain sectors and blocking many
sectors out. That was the nail in the
coffin which facilitated the
emergence of free FALL.
In the end, foreign investors took
over $80B out of the economy within
a short period and everything went
down to free fall.
To those who believe it will be worse
if Jonathan is still there, you are all
wrong. Policy continuity and political
stability will not let billions of
dollars leave our shores within such
tiny time frame. Even though the
government might have income
shortage, the private sector will
weather the storm by their
confidence in the market.
The fear of the unknown created by
PMB is responsible for the economic
downturn not low oil price. Interest
rate in America is currently at 0.5%
while it is 12% in Nigeria. JP Morgan
Chase will not mind borrowing $50
billion from Feds at 0.5 and put in
Nigeria for return of %2000 profit.
Citi bank will do the same, likewise
US Bank Corp. Chase gave Buhari
warning about the repercussions of
his fixing policy before they pulled
out, but his illiterate cyber warriors
and misseducated e-soldiers said
JPMORGAN can go to hell, they no
longer believe in economic metrics
since their messiah is in charge.
Funny enough they are all suffering
today because of the stupid policy,
but they find relief by blaming it on
past administration and Gucci
appetite of average Nigerians.
For your information, if your
president "kontunu" with his
unguided rhetoric, Naira will go
down to N1000/1 $. But we thank
God, he is no longer talking.

Even the one produce here is as expensive as the imported one....., what is really going on here in Nigeria? if the tariff on the imported one is OK, and the people decided to be importing it, so be it. Afterall, country like UK do import most of their foods too.

Nonsense! undecided

Do government import rice? Pls let us know whether Nigerian government is voted to increase commodity prices. From petrol to kerosene... from sugar to rice... from semovita to garri. No salary increment, always complaining. We know the global economy is in bad shape but why punishing the poor man?

And you are boldly saying it? Was it this bad when you came in? Come to think of it, what farm tools and seedlings have you people provided for these people to farm with? And how are their safety guaranteed? Or people should farm with their mouth? Please just sit down if you don't know what to say again and don't add to the problem you people has already created.
