Hair loss also medically known as alopecia is the partial or complete loss of hair. This condition is experienced by both men and women. In men it is known as males pattern hair loss while in women, it is known as women pattern hair loss.

The pattern with which baldness is formed as a result of hair loss in both men and women are different. In men, baldness can occur by the receding of hair from the hair streamline forming a M shape or recede of hair from the hair crown while in women, baldness is characterized by the thinning of the hair.

Baldness can occur during puberty or as one ages but In most cases, it occurs as one ages.

There are lots of factors that can cause balding which makes it difficult to diagnose the cause of balding. They are:

Heredity: In a situation where this disorder occurs within the family tree of an individual, he or she is more likely to perpetuate this medical trend.

Androgen alopecia: This is a condition in which androgen is less produced by the thyroid gland. Androgen is a hormone secreted in the thyroid gland, responsible for the growth of hair. In a situation where this hormone is less or not produced, it would lead to hair loss exposing the scalp.

Medication: baldness can occur as a result of the intake of cancer, high blood pressure, heart disease medications.

Pregnancy: this is experienced by women. During pregnancy, oestrogen is being secreted in huge amount which in-turn lead to the growth of more hair. After child delivery, the amount of oestrogen declines leading to hair loss.

Nutrition: Non intake of certain. Nutrients like vitamin required for the growth of the hair can lead to its loss. Excessive intake of vitamin A can lead to hair loss.

Alopecia Areomata: This form of hair loss is caused by the the attack of the hair follicles by the immune system.

Trichotillomania: This is a medical disorder in which the patient compulsively pulls out his or her own hairs.

Infections: infection of the scalp by ringworm and other diseases can lead to loss of hair forming patches at the area of hair lost.

In a situation where hair loss is hereditary, one should learn to embrace it and learn to live with it as there is no cure to it. But if it is ill-health related, then a cure is available
