For 6 months, they had been in training! And on graduation on Friday 15th Dec, 2006, they passed out of the Police college. Allowances and other accessories were not given to them, infact they had to buy a lot of things out of their pockets, such as the metallic NPF tags, booths and other accessories, which were supposed to be given to them FREE! And they have been TRAINED. . .! Trained for WHAT. . .? You definitely guessed right. . . . . . . . . . , Twenty-NAIRA! These are young persons, who joined the Police freely and ready to risk their lives for the country, yet the Police Administrators did not deem it fit to at least, while at the college, make things as comfortable for them as the training could allow before throwing them to the "wolves". With this type of treatment at the TRAINING level, already the self-image and personal ego factor had already been tampered with. Your guess is as good as mine who now stands at the receiving end of the policeman's "transfered aggression" - THE GENERAL PUBLIC. This goes to further highlight the URGENT need for an improvement of the welfare package of the policemen at all levels, and create avenue to give them a level of self-confidence, build-up their morale. Give them a sizeable take-home pay-package; let them feel their welfare is being taken care of, so that they wont have any excuse to be corrupt. We all recall the Tafa Balogun loot story. Time for that change is now! We cannot continue to have the police treated this way. |

Just thot I shld update this: I just found out that 25 days after the recent Passing-out parade held 15 Dec, 2006, the graduating Police guys are still at the Police College Ikeja; awaiting to be Posted to their various locations of assignment. The New intakes who are meant to resume this week have all being SLEEPING in Dining Rooms, Open field, parade-ground, etc. Why? You may ask, ? Since the graduated set are still occupying the hostels, these newbies have no option but to find a way to sort themselves out. So many of us used to watch POLICE ACADEMY, with Mahoney, Capt Harrison, those days, why can't our Policemen be motivated in that manner in the Police Colleges. Need I mention the meagre allowance they receive, all the deductions made on this meagre allowance and the pathetic situation the ladies and men have been put through these past 8 months? Should I highlight the sour attitudes of their senior officer who can even treat these boys as fellow human beings, with dignity, respect and understanding, not to mention having not deemed it fit to a relate with, and/or address the boys during their training. Tomorrow, we'll expect these boys to stand out there and fight crime, but they are not given the moral support they need at this early period in their chosen career. Leadership should be by example; not by mouth-service. If we want the Police to give their BEST, it's about time we gave them the best the Police, Nigeria and All of us have to offer. Na wa! { I NO BE POLICE SHA, I be concerned Naija-rian } |

I've said it once and I am saying it again. not until Babangida or Obasonjo or Buhari sons are killed by criminals will the security apparatus be taken serious in Nigeria, the presidency refused to provide adequate funding to protect Nigerians, and yet in preparation for the election, the presidency order 40 BULLET PROOF landcrusers for governors and senators at a whopping price tag of $76.000 each. the presidency order 2 new presidential jet, now where is our priority? we have policemen with flash lights chasing criminals. |
