Angered by the probe of Dame Patience Jonathan’s accounts by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, thousands of Ijaw youths on Friday stormed the Port Harcourt Zonal office of the commission to protest against the treatment meted out to the former First Lady.

A statement made available to Saturday Vanguard by the Spokesman for the EFCC, Mr. Wilson Uwujaren, indicated that the protesters carrying placards with various inscriptions, such as “Patience is Innocent”, “How Many First Ladies have Been Tried in Nigeria,” “Mrs Patience Jonathan Deserves Respect, Stop Embarrassing Her,” “EFCC Stop Victimizing Niger Delta People,” “EFCC How many corrupt Nigerians have been prosecuted and jailed,” and so on were led by one Sukubo Sara-Igbe Sukubo, a self acclaimed ambassador.

Sukubo reportedly told EFCC officials that they were in the commission to protest what they considered as an unprecedented ill-treatment of a former First Lady of Nigeria.

Sukubo said, “We are here to express our unhappiness and submit our letter of protest over what we consider as ill-treatment of the former first Lady.

“We, as coalition of Niger Delta Civil Rights Organisatioin, concerned youths and Ijaw Nation World Wide, hereby, demand that the EFCC should stay off Mrs. Patience Goodluck Jonathan, as there is no established legal or political precedent for what EFCC is currently doing to Mrs Patience Jonathan,” Sukubo said.

But the South South Zonal Head of the EFCC, Ishaq Salilu, calmed the protesters, saying that as a law-abiding agency of the government, it was merely doing its duties without any fear or favour.

Salilu told the protesters that the EFCC as a creation of law, discharges its responsibilities within the ambit of the law. “EFCC is a law-abiding organization, which discharges its duties not minding whose ox is gored. We do not shy away from our responsibilities. Where there is a case, we pursue it to logical conclusion, if there is no case, there is none, we move to other things. The motto of the Commission is “Nobody is Above the Law,” he said.

Ishaq commended the protesters for the peaceful manner they conducted themselves and assured them that their letter would be transmitted to the appropriate authorities.

Mrs. Jonathan recently instituted an action against the EFCC claiming that the money placed on “Post-No-Debit category” in the accounts of four companies currently being prosecuted on money laundering charge by the Commission, belong to her.

Sometimes I imagine the kind of people we are in this country..Someone implicated herself as the owner of millions of dollar in a case unconnected 2 her,and the masses who ought 2 come out enmass 2 push her out to defend herself in a competent court of law are the ones shielding her..In another news,NDA have also come out 2 support her openly and asked the Federal Govt not to prosecute her,this show of love between Patience Jonathan and NDA really tells more about those behind Avengers and who they are avenging for.
What I expected the Niger deltan youths and Avengers to be asking her is;Where did she get such money from,what did She and her husband do 2 better the region and the entire Niger deltans when in power..Supporting Corruption because he is our son or daughter will never help the fight against corruption,cos looters don't think about their own people when looting..This news has corroborated what the President said in NY yesterday..The corrupt cabals are truely behind pipeline vandalism..The hotel and all properties she acquired are not in the name of any Niger deltan state but hers and family members,the earlier we know this,the better for us.

Someone should explain to us what happened to our foreign reserve after the death of Abacha, how billions got missing.





Majority of the oil welsl are owned by the North, the same north that have ruled more than 30 years and the little the true owners of the oil got during the few years in power the north are fighting for it.





This is more than witch hunting, just know that people are not fools.

The efcc is embarassing and oppressing Patience jonathan.
How many forma first lady has been probe?
By the way, how can they accuse the wife of a forma president of a country of corruption without first accusing the president himself?
what authority do the woman has, as laid down in the constitution?
The efcc has lost the war against Jonathan, they cant touch him, so they are using his wife to get to him, which is totally senseless and stvpid.
If the husband is not guilty, then the wife is not guilty.
When Ibori's wife was arrested In london, it is because her husband was found guilty of corruption and embezzlement of public fund.
The efcc should leave patience alone, at least in her years as a first lady, she did not put on a 30million naira wrist watch and a bag that cost 8million naira.

Look I have no apologies or pity for her being investigated. If she is found guilty she should be arrested and jailed!

There are many SICK youths in Niger delta region. Av not seen any youth or group from the north protesting to defend Dasuki.


Corruption is bad irrespective of who practices it.
