Turan Inspires Barcelona’s Turnaround In Monchengladbach Win. by uneeking(m): 5:27am On Sep 29, 2016
Barcelona came from behind to win 2-1 at Borussia Monchengladbach and made it two wins from two in the Champions League this season. An error from Sergio Busquets led to Thorgan Hazard opening the scoring for the hosts in the first half, but goals from Arda Turan and Gerard Pique after the break turned things around. Barca now sit at the top of Group C after Celtic held Manchester City to a 3-3 draw in Glasgow.

Positives

The team’s reaction after falling behind was also noteworthy: This was the first time this season Barca have won a game after conceding the first goal. As for Turan, he came off the bench in the second half and heavily contributed to the turnaround with a cracking goal. He may feel hard done by not to have started in the absence of Lionel Messi and should be in the mix for a place in Luis Enrique’s side at Celta Vigo this weekend.

Negatives

Neymar was eventually involved in both of Barcelona’s goals, but he had previously shown signs of frustration. Towards the end of the first half he looked like he may react in a negative way to the crowding he suffered when in possession. Paco Alcacer’s lack of involvement was also a concern. It will take time to settle — especially when minutes are fed in dribs and drabs — but a goal would give him a boost.

Manager rating out of 10

7 — Luis Enrique has so many players that he naturally wants to keep fit, fresh and involved, that his rotations sometimes feel forced. Starting both Alcacer and Luis Suarez here was possibly not the best idea but he rectified his mistake with second-half alterations that proved key to the Blaugrana comeback.

Player ratings (1-10; 10 = best. Players introduced after 70 minutes get no rating):

GK Marc-Andre ter Stegen, 6 — Returning to the club where he spent 18 years of his life, the German goalkeeper was supposed to be one of the game’s main stories. In truth, though, after the rousing reception he was given by home fans when he warmed up, it was a quiet night. There was little he could have done about the Gladbach goal.

DF Sergi Roberto, 6 — After his heroics in Gijon on Saturday, this was a much quieter 90 minutes for the converted midfielder. Was positionally sound and comfortable on the ball, but didn’t offer as much in the final third in what was a more even game than the 5-0 win over Sporting.
