Google’s smart messaging app Google Allo, which started rolling out last week, has surpassed the 5 million downloads milestone on the company’s Play Store. The app hit the 1 million downloads mark four days ago, and was the top free Android app in the US this past weekend.

Allo seems to be following the footsteps of Google’s new video calling app Duo that saw enjoyed similar popularity at launch. However, the excitement around Duo quickly faded – now it’s not even in the top 50 apps in the Play Store’s free list. So, it will be interesting to see how the future shapes up for Allo.

The App is modelled after WhatsApp (in term of simplicity) but comes with a number of smart features that makes it slightly better.

Some of the highlights of the Google Allo include smart replies, incognito chats and most importantly, being able to have one on one chats with Google Assistant.

I am pretty much excited about the Google Allo but the App has already received mixed reviews and it will be interesting to see how Allo performs in the coming weeks.

Lol! I have not deleted mine and I am not sure I will do that anytime soon. The app is an awesome information provider for me.

nah its not. Its a normal social app with assistant tool , like every other social app with assistant tool.

Agree... Let's see what the future holds for Google on social messaging.

A very nice app I would say. However, whatsapp dominates the app as a result of its voice call feature. If Allo brings voice calls to the table, it should compete greatly with whatsapp.
