That's what I don't get

Clapperton, Livingstone, both reported of the white man receiving shabby treatment in Yorubaland.

By this they meant they had been treated as superior race in encounters of their explorations through certain parts of Africa.

They noted in particular the pride, haughtiness and a tradition of nobility of the Yoruba, Wolof, Asante and Fullah.
