baby elephant has dived into a fast-moving river in Thailand to rescue her human
Darrick Thomas, 42, from the Save Elephant Foundation, jumped into the water in Chiang Mai while a group of pachyderms stood on the shoreline to see what the elephant herd would do.

Hearing her friend’s cries for help, five-year-old Asian elephant Kham Lha, charged into the water and swam to his aid.

Using her trunk, the elephant gently guided the 42-year-old back to shore, highlighting the inseparable bond the pair have formed since Thomas rescued her from an abusive owner last year.

Thomas told the Sun he dived into the river to show the “warmth and kindness” elephants can foster for humans.

“Kham Lha was in a really bad way when she came to us. She had been tied up and forced to undergo cruel training known as crushing to prepare her to work in the tourist industry,” he said.

“We freed her and helped her to recover. She became really close to me and we formed a strong bond.”
