this is exactly who buhari is . When we say it on nairaland we are called all sort of names. But the truth is so glaring to the outside world about the kind of man buhari is. It took him almost 6 months to appoint his cabinet in the face of an impending recession and kept telling everyone that he doesn't know why ppl are in such a hurry for him to appoint his cabinet!!!
Complete ediotic fools in power

It was still this Adichie woman that praised Bihari last year when he won the election, saying GEJ Regime had failed her and everything crappy about GEJ ...
She's now speaking against Because her tribes people are being killed....

let's stop this behavior and stand for the truth...we need writers like her and Soyinka to preach to Nigerians to see the light... what has Adichie done to effect moral and social development? apart from loaning us extremism of feminist ideas?

what the Fulani' herdsmen are doing is so wrong... but what did you expect when you supported a fanatic?

seriously, are you in Nigeria or Ghana because you seems not here.

Condemning an administration is not a bad thing. I am from south west but we are all Nigerians. if PMB has done something worthy to be praised we will all praise him. he is really incapacitated and the country is falling apart with no direction. Sentiment apart PMB has failed Nigerians.

This woman is a terrible disappointment. As "enlightened" as you are Adichie, you welcomed the emergence of an ex-military dictator who almost destroyed the country?
There is no other country in this world where a former military dictator will contest and win elections twenty yearss after his exit from power except in this useless Nigeria, whilst having the backing of supposedly enlightened people.
Nigeria is the only in the world where people vote ex military dictators and we wonder why we are not progressing.

As usual, some Nairalanders simply can't resist the urge to derail a promising thread through idiotic tribalistic attacks. What does Adichie's background have to do with anything she's said here? How would it make anything she says less true? Some of you people seriously need help - not everything needs to be made into an "Igbo vs Yoruba" quarrel.

Getting to the actual article, I can't see how anyone can argue with what Adichie has written. Buhari's delay in appointing ministers was simply inexcusable, as he should have done the necessary vetting during the campaign period, to enable him to hit the ground running if he won: that's how things are done where people know what they're doing.

Adichie is also absolutely correct about Buhari's economic policies, as they are nothing more than the same old socialistic nonsense he tried back in 1984, leading to the same results as they did then: shortages and hardship everywhere. When you artificially cap the prices of goods and services in the name of "saving the masses", you end up up with shortages, and that is as true in Nigeria as it is in Venezuela. Notice how the petrol shortages magically disappeared when Buhari finally relented and allowed pump prices to rise? The current "dollar shortage" is also equally artificial and easily fixable, but the ignorant Nigerian masses seem happy enough to suffer while Dangote and a few lucky others continue to be subsidized with cheap dollars at their expense.

I won't even get started about the DSS raid on the judges, which so many people on here continue to cheer uncritically, simply because the DSS claims to have carried it out in the name of "fighting corruption". Never mind that it's easy enough to take a picture of a stack of money and claim it was seized from whomever; nobody who knows how this will look to outsiders can imagine the effect will be to do anything other than scare away foreign investors. Nobody wants to put their money into a country where the masses dismiss the rule of law to cheer on a strongman arbitrarily dispensing "justice".

Was it not still this Adichie person that was criticizing GEJ and praising Buhari not long ago.

Too many shortsighted individuals who felt an illiterate who couldn't pass his WAEC is the solution for Nigeria's problems.
Serves them all right. Atleast she is wise enough to accept she was wrong about Buhari.

I am a strong PDP supporter which means I belong to the opposition but Adichie's pieces is like that of the dumb girl who had to wait until she was used and dumped by her boyfriend before she became wise. During the campaign period of last year election she was as the same one who criticized the Jonathan administration just to gain fame. All the signs were there Buhari would be a dictator as in 1984 but ppl like her used the opportunity to malign Jonathan just to gain cheap popularity even at the detriment to her ppl. Well I reckon with critical thinkers not some individual who knows how to connect words to make good sentences.

The literature is quite informative but glaring that it's basis is about still winning audience as the Author's profession demands. It has failed to broaden, counter and profer solutions to her highlights like an economist would have done.

It's just about pain and gain, Buhari's policies re on track though I might disagree with some which is based on personal analysis judgement. Buhari is simply breaking bends that with flex our economy.

Brilliant observation!

Stop being trabalistic as it is one of the major problems of Nigeria. Must you draw tribal inclination to every post ? Did you not read where she made mention of the killing of northern Shiite muslims and buhari's insensivity to that ? She said southern Nigeria is being ravaged by Fulani herdsmen not southeaster Nigeria. Did herdsmen not kill in southwest (reason why fayose promptly enacted ant grazing law)? Did they not kill in south south ( edo and delta) didn't they kill in south east? That is why she said south. You are they one that is saying it was only her tribes people that were killed. Haba ! How can you rubbish yourself like this ?

Why is she trying to remind us about what happened in 1984 when she was just 4? Why didn't she remember it before the elections? She and Wole Soyinka, plus a host of others have lost my respect forever.

Writers, actors and actresses are fast becoming politicians dabbling into an area they know little or nothing about.
Chimamanda is a lady I love and respect so much so I will hold my peace. However, governance is far beyond what many think.
If PMB must get it right, he must go the way he is going right now. It's difficult we all know but a guaranteed future can never be possible without the sacrifices of today.

No, your way of reasoning is the reason why Nigeria will never moved forward. If Gej failed woefully should she praise him because she's Igbo? Is it wrong to support Pmb if you think he might make things better? Now that things aren't getting better partly because of Pmb's policies, is it wrong to change her stand? The problem of this country are the WAILERS without reasons, and the ZOMBIES without reasons.
