Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom has disclosed that the next Tor Tiv will be sworn in with a Bible instead of the usual traditional ritual. He made the disclosure yesterday during the Interdenominational Fasting and Prayer Service for Divine Guidance in the Traditional Institution in Benue State. Governor also warned that traditional rulers will not be allowed to get involved in politics. His words, “No traditional ruler in Benue State will again be allowed to get involved in partisan politics. The next Tor Tiv and other chiefs soon to emerge will take the oath of office with the Bible in their hands. Our people have tried swem but it failed us when we needed a defender against invaders. We will follow and obey God this time and allow His interest to prevail” The governor also said where kindred heads, second class chiefs, first class chiefs and paramount ruler are to be selected, the process for selecting each group of traditional rulers would take one day. According to him, the selection process would start from bottom to top and explained that if those anchoring the selection process allow themselves to be used for selfish purposes, they would have themselves to blame. He asked Christians to pray and support the administration and promised not to deviate from God’s counsel for the people of the state.
