True Religion revolves around two things- Helping the poor in their distress, and preventing ourselves from being corrupted in this evil world(James 1: 27).
This is the summary of what Jesus told that rich man who approached him seeking to know what he can do in order to be saved. The man fulfilled the second part(holiness) because he kept all the commandments but failed in the first part(kindness) because he was too selfish.
In our world today, rich people finds it very difficult to help the Poor because of FEAR.
This fear is in three categories:
1. FEAR OF LACK
Every individual that has become rich in this world will never want to be in lack or be poor anymore. But when this thought is taken too far, it culminates in selfishness. The rich man who met Jesus had this category of fear. They believe that giving to the poor will someday bring them to poverty. So they try to keep everything they have to themselves and most especially, their children so that they won't have to suffer and their entire generation won't lack anything.
2. FEAR OF LOSING FAME
Riches and Fame always go together. Rich people fear to loose their Fame and therefore, they don't want anyone to suddenly come out of nowhere to become richer and more Famous than them. So, when they see a poor man with potentials, they can never help him so that he won't become richer than they are. What they think in their mind is: If I help or train that poor man's children, they might one day rule over my own children. This kind of rich men will only give you peanuts and expect you to bow for them and say 'Thank you sir'. They'll never give you something tangible or help you to make it in life so that another person will not call you 'sir'.
3. FEAR OF DEATH
To rich men, The fear of death is the beginning of wisdom. This fear will make them suspect that everyone they meet is jealous and thinking of killing them. If you approach them for help, you become a suspect. They prefer to give 1 million naira to the church instead of giving just 10 thousand naira to that poor, old widow in their community due to fear that she'll use it to do juju or witchcrafty in order to kill them. I remember a rich man who once said that he'll keep everything he had to himself because rich men who try to help others don't live long.
Most of these rich men will join secret societies to protect their lives and squander their money there instead of spending it on the poor.

This thread is created out of necessity for the Bible says "Charge those who are rich in this present world not to be arrogant nor to put their hope in wealth, which is so uncertain, but to put their hope in God, who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment.
Command them to do good, to be rich in good deeds, and to be generous and willing to share".(1 Timothy 6: 17-18).

Spread this message and tell us any other reason you know why rich people don’t help the Poor despite all these Bible warnings.
HAPPY SUNDAY to you all!
