Kim stared at her reflection on the mirror, trying to understand herself.

She couldn't give a logical reason why she had done what she had done in the past.

she guessed she had just been thinking that was her idea of living life.

she felt a tear like a tiny crystal ball go down her cheeks.

She had never known that the things she had done in the past would hunt her. She wished she could change the hands of time.

Wished she could undo everything she had done, down to her first night with Ralph.

She cried harder for her innocence she had stupidly given away.

She had been such a fool.

Such a fool to think that she would have the life she had so desired with Ralph.

There was a knock on the bathroom door, and Kim wiped her cheeks quickly.

"Who is there" Kim asked clearing her voice.

"It's Kells, dad is around and mum wants you downstairs for a family dinner, be down in 10" Kells shouted out and Kim could hear her retreating steps.

Kim sighed. She had to face her father, there was no way she could hide from that.

She washed her face, and walked out of the bathroom, preparing to face her father.

When Kim got downstairs she noticed that everyone was sited.

She noticed that Hailey was unusually quiet, which was really weird.

Kim cleared her throat when she stepped into the dinning room and all eyes turned to her, including her father.

She could see so much pain in his eyes.

she had failed him.

She felt like crying all over again, but she knew that it wouldn't be a smart move.

"Good evening dad" she said quietly and wasn't surprised to see that he didn't reply. His only reply to her was a curt nod.

She walked up to an empty sit.

Dinner was so quiet because of the tension in the room.

Tension that could be cut through with a knife.

Well, dinner was quiet until Kim's father decided to speak.

"So how is your new life treating you, are you tired already?" her father asked with a stern voice.

Kim swallowed hard and wore a fake smile.

"My daughter and I came here for the hols, I needed to change Hailey's environment " she said with her heart beating.

Her father gave her the look that said 'I know you are lying' but she ignored him, pretending like she didn't care.

She stared at Hailey.

Hailey was a smart kid, she had picked up something.

Immediately after dinner Kim rushed out of the dinning room to her room.

She had to think of her next step, she couldn't stay here for more than a week, if not her family would start suspecting and she didn't want that.

The next few days was fun for Hailey. There was no denial that she was having the time of her life.

She seemed comfortable.

The only time she wasn't comfortable was when she was around her grandfather.

Kim on the other hand was reminiscing on the early years of her marriage, when everything had been perfect. When Ralph had been Ralph.

Things were so fvcked up now.

The man she had loved was slipping out of hands right in front of her eyes.

She needed to do what is right, which was go back and try to make it work.

Denzel on the other hand kept on calling her.

Calls she refused to pick. She didn't need anymore confusion in her life.

Denzel sent messages too, but she never replied.

Kim had finally made up her mind, they were going back home.

When she told Hailey, she wasn't happy. She didn't want to go,but Kim was not having any of it.

The more she ran away from her problems, the more her problems kept on piling up.

The day Kim finally decided to leave, everyone wore a long face except her father.

She knew he hadn't forgiven her and she hoped one day, he would.

Hailey slept through out the drive and Kim kept on thinking of things to do to make her marriage work. She was actually thinking of suggesting to Ralph if they could see a marriage councillor.

Kim wasn't expecting the shock she was going to receive when she got home.

She entered the house with her spare key, multi tasking.
She was carrying Hailey who was sleeping on one hand and her box on the other.

When she walked into the sitting room, the place was a mess. She saw empty bottles of vodka and two glasses on the glass table.

She walked straight to her room to drop the box before taking her daughter to her room which was a wrong move.

On entering the room she shared with her husband, she saw something that almost made her drop dead with Hailey who was still in her arms.

Her husband was banging another woman which wasn't her.

She almost fainted when she saw the face.

It was a face from her past.............

Kim gasped causing Ralph to turn around, pushing himself away from Tara.

"Jesus Christ!, what are you doing here? "Ralph asked out aloud clearly in shock.

That was when Hailey decided to wake up.

" mummy, are we home? "she moaned with sleepy eyes.

Ralph eyes opened in shock and Kim knew what he was thinking. Kim stared at Tara who was smirking and looking at the drama unfold.

" yea baby we are home, but mummy wants you to go back to sleep " Kim said with tears falling from her eyes. She felt her heart squeeze painfully. She was finding it hard to breathe.

"but I want to see daddy" she said opening her eyes this time. She stared at her father who was wearing nothing and then at the woman on the bed.

"mummy " Hailey started talking but stopped half way.

" I can't anymore Ralph, this is the height of it, I can't, not anymore " she said walking away with Hailey who was really quiet.

Kim couldn't stop the sobs that escaped her lips.

She was confused.

Where was she going to go to from here?

She had no friends, and she couldn't go back to her family. That won't be a good idea.

She heard Ralph behind her, begging her to come back. But she didn't look back.

She couldn't. If she did, she was going to fall apart in front of Hailey and that wouldn't be wise.

She walked to her car, putting Hailey in the passenger's sit and then setting the box in the boot.

She couldn't go back to Abuja. Couldn't go back home.

She climbed into the car and sat down, trying hard to control herself. She turned to see Ralph running down to the car to meet her.

"open up please, It's not what you think " he said trying hard to convince her, but she was no fool.

Kim laughed bitterly as tears ran down her cheeks.

" yea, it isn't. I wish you the best with Tara" she said wiping her tears with the back of her palm and sniffing. She started the engine and drove off, leaving Ralph's mouth opened.

Kim ended up lodging in an hotel with Hailey.

Hailey still hadn't said a word. Kim felt angry at herself that her baby had to see what she had seen.

Kim was going to pull through. She promised herself.

"Baby, mummy has to go into the bathroom, don't answer the door if anyone knocks" Kim said sniffing.

She picked up her bag and went into the bathroom, locking the door.

Kim stared at her reflection in the mirror. Her eyes were red. And her face puffy. She splashed water onto her face

She brought out a pack of cigarette from her bag. She had promised herself that she was done with this, but circumstances were making her change.

She placed a cigar between her lips and lighted it with the lighter from her bag.

She was far too gone.

Six years ago

Kim was panicking.

She didn't know what to do. She had really bleeped up this time.

Oh, she felt like crying. She was loosing her mind.

How could this happen to her?

How could she have forgotten that every thing came with a price.

She was pregnant and she was going to go back home with her head bowed in shame.

She dialed Ralph's number and he picked on the second ring.

"Hello baby, I need to see you asap" she said cutting to the chase.

Ralph did not have to say much because he heard the desperation in her voice.

Kim wasn't surprised to see Ralph rushing into her apartment 30minutes later.

"Babe, what is going on?" he asked with so much concern that melted kim's heart.

She pushed that aside. Right now, she had bigger problems at hand to think of.

"Ralph, i am pregnant. I am so sorry because i know that this wasn't supposed to happen. If you don't want the baby i would understand. I know that you have your reputation and your parent's to think of. I am so sorry" she said blabbing without control.

Ralph stared at Kim like she had just grown two heads.

"What do you take me for?" he asked angrily and Kim felt her cheeks go wet. She was sure that he hated her for this.

"I am so sorry Ralph" zhe apologized again causing Ralph's frown to deepen.

"Would you just stop apologizing, well, unless the baby isn't mine,which i am sure is, because i was your first. Except there is something that you are not telling me..." kim cut him short.

"No no no, you are the only man" she said wiping her tears.

Ralph smiled softly at her, "good, we can still do something" he said holding her hands.

"what would i do? My parents would kill me if they discover that i got pregnant out of wedlock, it is something they always preach against" she cried out, removing her right hand from Ralph's grasp and placing it on her head.

Ralph squeezed her left hand softly. "kim look at me" he said trying to get her attention.

Kim stared deep into his eyes.

"First of all, it is 'we', this is our problem and we are going to keep this child" he said staring at her beautiful face.

Kim stared at this man she was so crazy about. She loved him so much.

It was going to be okay,she hoped.

Kim frowned at her phone. It was Ralph calling again,she couldn't count how many times he had called.

She ignored the call and continued drinking her vodka. She remembered her wasted years with Ralph.

She had wasted six good years......

She squeezed her eyes tight, trying to stop the tears from falling, but they still managed to escape.

She had been so stupid. Who had she been to think that she could have eaten her cake and still have it.

She brought out another cigar and lighted it. She had been so foolish, she thought drawing a smoke.

By the time she looked at the time, she realised that she had been in the bathroom for four straight hours. She stood up from the ground and started packing up. She dumped the vodka bottle in the trash can and drew one last smoke before putting it off.

She arranged her hair and wiped her tears before going to the room.

She sighed staring at Hailey all curled up and sleeping on the bed.

She looked so calm, so innocent. Kim felt tears flow down her cheeks again.

The last thing that she wanted to do was destroy her little baby's life....

She had to think fast.

Very soon the news would be out. That she had left Ralph. She was dead confused.

She walked up to the bed and she pulled Hailey close to her, cuddling her.

Hailey was all she had now.

She slept off thinking about what she was going to do next.
