You may have noticed ‘ghost touches’ happening on your iPhone or iPad. A ‘ghost touch’ is when your Apple device seems to be acting as if it is receiving touch input, without intervention on your part. This may manifest in the form of apps being automatically selected, odd scrolling, automatic opening of menus and lag while browsing.

Here is a case below:

Apple’s iOS operating system prioritizes touch events. This means that user inputs are given greater priority and system resources over other processes. This is why ‘ghost touches’ are so disruptive to the functioning of your Apple device.

The issue of ‘ghost touches’ has been observed in new Apple devices as well as devices that have had their touch screens replaced or removed during repair. The issue has been reported frequently in the iPhone 6. So why does this iPhone 6 ghost touching occur?
The root cause of ghost touching in Apple devices is a defective digitizer board. The digitizer board is an electronic component present in most modern touch screen devices. The digitizer convert touch inputs into digital data which can be accessed and manipulated by the processor of the device. In case of a new Apple device, if the digitizer has a manufacturing defect, ghost touching occurs. For a repaired Apple device, ghost touching is caused by incorrect installation of the digitizer.

Many iPhone and iPad users have reported another cause for the ghost touching phenomenon. Apparently, some third party chargers can have unexpected effects on the digitizer, which may be responsible for the ghost touches that you are experiencing.

There are steps you can take to help eliminate iPhone 6 ghost touching. First of all, if you are using a third party charger or accessory to charge your Apple device, stop using the charger and switch to an original accessory. A third party accessory is any accessory that hasn’t been made by Apple or its affiliates. This applies to USB cables as well as chargers.

If you have experience in dismantling and repairing Apple devices, there is another method you can follow. You will need to remove the touch panel and the digitizer board. The digitizer board has a flex cable attached to it. This cable contains circuits that are responsible for transmitting user input signals. During installation of the touch panels, care should be taken that the flex cable does not bend. There is an area designated for the flex cable in the rear housing or frame of the Apple device. Make sure that the flex cable sits firmly in this area to prevent damage. If the flex cable is damaged, it may have to be replaced.

There is another precaution that should be taken while replacing the touch panel. Before installing the touch panel digitizer, it is necessary to apply a heat-resistant tape around the frame of the Apple device. This tape is responsible for absorbing static and heat. If the tape has not been properly applied, or if you have forgotten to apply the tape, ghost touching may occur.

If you experience ghost touching on your iPhone 6 even after following these steps, you will need to take your Apple device to an Apple Store for replacement or repair.
