An Obnoxious Decision Nigeria... by Abimibaola(m): 9:31am On Oct 28, 2016
AN OBNOXIOUS DECISION NIGERIA NATIONAL ASSEMBLY WOULD EVER MADE
It’s going to be an obnoxious decision on the account of the national assembly as they make decision on whether to sell refinery, airport and every other to. As the case may demand, it is not a right decision to make at this point of economy recession that country is going through. And this calls for “SUSPICIOUS ACT” nothing but a selfish act.
As a renowned HUMAN RIGHTS LAWYER Mr. Femi Falana (SAN), as rightly suggested “cut allowances, don’t sell assets”. In his statement on Thursday (22nd Sept., 2016. PUNCH) Falana said Nigeria had never benefited from the sale of national assets in the past because they were undervalued and sold to unscrupulous politicians. He proceeded by saying “if the senate genuinely desire to contribute meaningfully to the debate on the economy, it should, as a matter of urgency, propose a substantial reduction in the ‘JUMBO EMOLUMENT’ of federal legislator which are said to be the highest in the world”.
It would be very unfortunate if our so called senators, are just there to sponsor there bills for self-interest, thereby amassing wealth at the expense of the populace. None of them has ever made a suggestion on how their allowance can be cut. We hereby appeal to Mr. President, Muhammad Buhari to be more sensitive and not to support such move to sell the public assets now. That we currently face economic recession does not call for sales of our major assets into the hand of the rich fool.
Nigeria has gone through this kind of economic challenge in the time past and what was the approach used to solve it. It shows the level of our leaders’ ignorance in tackling economic challenges. We need to find a better approach to address the current economic recession because it is not peculiar to our dear country alone. Has any western country embark on such indiscriminate sales of their public sector?
Let a spade be called a spade, I am convinced, by these inhumane bills, that our senators do not deserve all the emoluments they enjoy. So, I suggest that they agree that their take home be cut as part of the solution to tackle our economic crises if they are actually acting in the interest of the masses who have been made to bear the burden of the current economic woe. What is good for the goose is good for gander.
