Kaduna Traditional Ruler Agwatyap Buried Amidst Tears by Kalatium(m): 3:52pm On Nov 16, 2016
The late paramount ruler of Atyap Nation in Zangon Kataf LGA of Kaduna State Dr Harrison Bungwon has been buried amidst tears.
This is coming just as the Kaduna State government has reiterated its readiness to partner
with traditional institution in running the affairs of the state.
speaking at the funeral service of the Agwatyap 11 on Friday in his
home town Zangon Kataf, the deputy governor Architect Barnabas Bala
Bantex, said late Dr Harrison Yusuf Bungwon, the state government
would continue to nurture the seeds of peace and togetherness sowed by
the late traditional ruler for the peace, unity and development of the
state.
He noted that the late traditional ruler during his lifetime established a firm reputation before he became a royal father, adding, “He was known
as a gentleman to the core, a lover of peace, and a devout Christian.
He made his mark as a teacher, an engineer, an administrator, a
politician, a traditional leader and above all, as a good man.
“If you had the privilege of knowing the late Agwatyap, you will attest to the fact that he was a bold and courageous man, who fought for the
rights of his people. In all the places he worked, he served with
dedication and
hard work.
“When he was a lecturer at the Kaduna
Polytechnic, Dr. Harrison Yusuf
Bungwon mentored hundreds of students who have gone on to excel in the
engineering world. As a mechanical engineer of repute, he put at the
disposal of the country the vast experience he had acquired from across the
world.
“As a politician, he was a leading light in the defunct Social Democratic Party, SDP, Dr. Bungwon was always clear about where he stood, but he had the grace of a democrat.
“As a commissioner of Works and Transport, he worked tirelessly for
infrastructural development in the state.
He brought the same zeal to his
duties at the Atyap traditional council where he was the paramount
traditional ruler.
“The late Dr. Bungwon was a ralling point in bringing people together and
was also highly instrumental in the successes of his subjects indifferent
capacities.”
Governor El-Rufai’s tribune to late Dr. Bungwon said, “I received with
shock the news of the passage of His Royal Highness, Dr. Harrison Yusuf
Bungwon, the Agwatyap 11, who died after a brief illness.
The state has lost an astute traditional ruler, a gentleman to the core with a long history to service and dedication to the cause of humanity and peace. He was a pillar and a rallying point in our quest for a better Kaduna State.
“His Royal Highness, Dr, Bungwon took on the responsibility of building bridges, and he distinguished himself beyond expectations that noble quest.
He represented humility and sincerity. We will miss his advocacy for pezce and togetherness, and his willingneds to bring people together.
“My last encounter with the late Dr. Bungwon was on 23rd March, 2016 in
Kafanchan where we all gathered to witness the signing of the Kafanchan
Peace Declaration. That Peace Declaration, which marks a land dmark victory of humanity over hate and peace over violence, was achieved
through the dedication and commitment of people like the last
monarch.”
The burial ceremony witnessed people from all walks of life who were in the palace to pay their last respect to the late traditional ruler.
