Niger State government is to slash the cost for processing and acquiring a Certificate of Occupancy to a flat rate of N15,000 from the current N127,000, for urban-based property.
The new rate will take effect from January 2017, a government spokesperson, Jibrin Ndace, said Thursday.
The reduction, which will last for six months, will also see landowners in the rural areas paying as low as N5,000 for certificates of their plot.
This was disclosed on Thursday by the state Commissioner for Lands and Housing, Haliru Jikantoro, shortly after the state executive council meeting at the Government House Minna.
Mr. Jikantoro said the policy was aimed at enabling individuals prove the ownership of their landed properties, help provide means of creating wealth, as the certificate can be used as collateral for loan and to boost the Internally-Generated Revenue of the state.
According to the Commissioner, “The state government had decided to reduce the cost of processing and acquiring Certificate of Occupancy of all types of titles.
“This policy, which takes effect from January 2017 and last till 30th of June, 2017 for six months, is aimed at raising the Internally Generated Revenue of the state, to authenticate properties to genuine owners, ensure security and at the same time to create wealth for the people,” the commissioner said.http://www.premiumtimesng.com/regional/north-central/216235-niger-govt-cuts-c-o-fee-n15000.html

Nice I this is pretty good way to get more development. I think the should do it longer then 6 months. If possible make it permanent. Make sure houses are proper zoned as well.

Anyway they don't need the high fee in my opinion because the money generated from developing would supplement the low fees associated with processing the paper work. Maybe increase it higher to cover fiscal cost.

This is a good development, somebody has been using his or her brain. I wish FCT can do the same.

This has been the main reason why most farmers can't secure loan in the banks because they don't have a CofO for their land. Crashing the CofO price will really help in the creation of wealth for their indigenes.

Anyway, how much for one hectares of land in Minna? grin

Wise way to generate revenue.. I hope it will be used for the benefit of the 99%(the people) and not the 1%... Other states should take this up

Nice development.

Today is another Saturday, two of my very close friends are in for a marriage bond and I was selected by both of them to be their best man. Unfortunately, I declined offer from either of them not to breed grudges over my area preference.

Now, am in house thinking of which to attend as both are of different states.

Do Nigerian government offices now adhere to official prices?

Aren't these usually just the paper value?

Note that it only lasts for six months. After the six months it will revert to the old price.

This is a welcome development. I hope it can be extended across the nation.

Was at a seminar recently and one of the speakers mentioned this step as a way to promote development.

He mentioned that if the cost of C of O is reduced, many people will be encouraged to register and get thiers. This they can use as collateral for business etc, and also the goverment will also have more people to collect tax from. So a win win situation.

Bank loan is now given through this very important documents. So the governor is a real business man.

U dey mind dem? Who will give them even at the previous price? We don't even need them in our midst. If I have my ways I will pay them for the plots they have already acquired and send them to their yeas.t. We don't stay in their midst much but they keep infilterating us with their unacceptable ways.
