Fellow Nairaland, the rate at which trailers with containers or containers are killing or amputating people is alarming. Yours truly has compiled the following that may help us avoid these trailers and containers wahala, while we wait for the government to implemented laws that will eradicate this menace and societal epidemic called "trailer with container accident", that has claimed many lives.

Below are suggestions from my personal observations. Please feel free to add your suggestions too.

WHAT YOU COULD DO WHEN YOU SEE A TRAILER
1. Advice the okada, keke, taxi, danfo etc to either wait for the trailer to give space for you pass or tell the driver to speed up so as to overtake the trailer.
2.Do not allow your car, etc to be near a trailer with container
3.Do not drag the road with a trailer with container
4. Do not walk closely or slowly behind, beside or in front of a trailer.
5. Avoid every close contact with a trailer carrying a container
6. When you notice a trailer near you or you are approaching a trailer, kindly advice your driver to respect your life and avoid close contact with the trailer
7. Do not sleep when traveling
8. Most times containers fall from trailers because of bad roads, overloading and bad vehicle conveying the containers,
9. If you notice that a trailer is trying to maneuver through a bad road or spot, RUN FOR YOUR LIFE!
10. if a Trailer with containing is finding it difficult to move or has bad tires, RUN FOR YOUR LIFE!

Lagos government tried to ban them for day time driving, but the ban didn't last for more than two weeks before we started seeing them driving during daytime.

The government should be VERY SERIOUS about it, as container falls has claimed many lives.

How about having those trailer drivers place some safety equipments to secure their cargo so that even when they pass through bad roads their cargo does not fall as in the above case. If our rail system was developed, people will transport cargos through that means. I recently saw a trailer break into two halves due to the condition of the vehicle and the bad road it was going through, some of them are not road worthy at all

Our law enforcement agents need to do more to protect lives but it seems they are more interested in the money instead

Emergency response services need to up their game. This lady obviously lost a lot of blood and this could have been reduced if paramedics were available on time

Nice suggestions. However the problem with relying on these trailer drivers and enforcement agencies is that they care less about lives. That is why we must not wait for them.

I think it's time government start looking into railway industry/may be bringing in private investors into d industry.
We need a functioning railway system linking d south n d north.

With few cargo trains we should be able to reduce the numbers of trailers on our roads. Most esp in d Southwest...

But one sure thing is that: u're d only sane driver/pedestrian when commuting on our roads.
