Hundreds of thousands of Students graduate every year; many of them mostly looking towards landing their dream jobs. Most fresh graduates have high hopes and are full of optimism, but would later be knocked off when they discover that job hunt is not as smooth as they had envisioned it would be. We’ve compiled this article to help mostly fresh graduates land their choice dream jobs with all ease.

The Search Starts Now
You could be tempted to stay lazy for some time, stay at home, watch TV, and have fun, just for some weeks or even some months. While that sounds nice and sensible, it is best you start your job hunt right from the campus. Hiring processes often take months, and getting a job in today’s market especially without much experience may take some good time. Start active searching now, you never can tell how things would work out for you.

All Work Experiences are Important
New graduates sometimes exclude certain types of work they had as students from their resume, like retailing, cleaning, and even administrative positions held during school days. New graduates most times believe these are irrelevant to the types of jobs they’re targeting, especially when these have little or nothing to do with the current jobs they are pursuing. But especially if you don’t have much other work experience to show, these sorts of jobs can be key in demonstrating that you know how to deal with customers, show up reliably and that you have a track record of handling paid employment like an adult. Therefore, don’t shy away from including them.

Broaden your horizons
While on a job hunt, you should open yourself up to a broader range of possibilities, gather more knowledge, improve your already acquired skills, and learn more about your target job. This would make you dynamic and ready to fit into a lot of roles, which in turn increases your value and your chances of landing your dream job.

Don’t apply for everything you see
Being a fresh and anxious graduate, you could be deceived into applying for anything you see that looks like a job hoping that one would get you a “call-back”, in as much you should broaden your horizons and open up yourself to possibilities; that is not the same thing as applying for every job. Rather, carefully targeting your search to jobs you’re truly qualified for and writing a tailored cover letter for each will get you far better results than simply aiming for quantity. You should have a dream, a target, and a direction which you are headed for. Employers love to see guys with dreams, a plan, and a road map to their dreams.

Every Advice is not Worth Listening to
While you should keep your ears open to advice, you should not take in everything you hear. Always remember that often times, people with little knowledge love to show just how little they have, mostly offering irrelevant and unsolicited advice randomly. You should take advice from pros who are currently in the system and know how things work currently. Besides, you should hone your instincts to choose the best advice for yourself.

Use your network
You probably know some guys, who knows guys that knows the guys that’s got the job right? You should check out on friends and relations, managers whom you worked or interned with while a student; you should let them know that you are on a hunt. They could have the key to the job you have been looking for. At a minimum, make sure that you’ve alerted your managers from past jobs to the fact that you’re now looking, that’s a basic and crucial step that far too many new graduates overlook.

Online Reputation
Ensure that your email address, outgoing voice mail message and online presence all portray you as a professional and mature adult, not a partying tertiary student. Employers form opinions based on these things, and the more mature and polished you appear, the better your chances.

Let these tips be at your finger tip, absorb them and let them guide you on your job hunt as a fresh Graduate.
