Jigawa state Farmers and Herdsmen Board has remunerated N680,000 to affected farmers in Kirikasamma Local Government Area of the state as part of efforts to compensate farmers whose farms were encroached upon by rampaging cattle.

According to the Executive Secretary of the Board, Rabi’u Miko who disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria, the compensation was paid to 28 farmers whose crops were destroyed by encroaching cattle in Marma village, Iwo and Madaci villages of Kirikasamma Local Government Area.

Miko stated that 19 farmers from Marma village received N360,000 as compensation while 9 farmers in Iwo and Madaci villages received N500, 000. He also said that the operations of the board was in line with the provisions of the mobile court concerning cattle encroachment, and informed that any animal found encroaching farmland and destroying farm produce in the state will be impounded and be kept under custody.
“If the owner comes then we have our mobile court; but if nobody claims ownership of the impounded cattle, then we sell them and compensate the affected farmers,” Miko said.

Nice slowly common sense is reaching leaders all over the country. Enforce property rights simple. After these vandals lose enought money they'll learn the difference between farmland and grazing field.

Maybe just maybe they'll take up ranching. Then move they're cattle via rail. I think that will be more efficient way of producing cattle.

Jigawa is 94% Hausa, 5% Kanuri and 1% others. Fulani herdsmen are strangers there too. They destroys peoples crop also but there are easier method to conflict resolution amongst them since they're Muslims and can all understand Hausa language.

Where are those armchair, overnight constitutional law experts whose knowledge extends only to the right to free movement? Their own constitution includes cattle in this freedom, somehow disregards rights of ancestral land owners and farmers and their traditions yet upholds nomadic customs of strangers and foreigners!

Goid thing this is happening in Jigawa, their very close neighbours because if it were to be in any Southern state they will be crawling all over the place as constitutional rights advocates.
