what are the advantages of sack farming? 1) saving space 2) maximizing the potentials of land 3) u can even farm on roof tops sofar you are exposed to sun 3) retaining manure and avoid soil leaching 4) retain water etc... having known this I would know that cement bags are the best becos they are not that porous! they can retain more water for a longer time so you would not need watering on a regular basis... to our main matter, the standard measurement of land in Nigeria is 50ft×100ft. we are going to make use of a quarter plot for this experiment.

I reside in Port Harcourt and I'm considering leasing a piece of land for this purpose.. pls I have a few questions.. (1) how much capital do I need to start something small? (2) What are the factors I need to consider when choosing the area of land? (3) what other crops can I combine with Cocumber using this method? nice questions dear missoptimist... I would begin by answering your questions by letting u know that I am a graduate of philosophy and not a professor in agriculture... I read some where on internet that a professional journalist can be a specialist in agriculture so like wise your self... agriculture is mans treasure and a gift from God to enable him eat... dust to dust... and dust to mouth... so any person can farm irrespective of your profession... I encourage u...question 4... yes u can combine my method of farming with any other job. reasons: (a)u have lesser work to do (b) u have no reason to be seen in ur farm in the morn and afternoon after planting unless u just want to take a tour u would only water at evenings and spray chemicals at evening... why only at evening? pesticides would chase away pollinators from your farm as well as other pest and u know pollinators come at morning so praying chemicals is advised at evening... I can bet u that this method of farming is scientific and enjoyable... question 3... I don't see any reason why u would plant cucumber with any other crop on same spot but u could divide ur portion into two and use one for cucumber and use the other for ur desired crop...question 2... I Guess u want to use the method showcased con this thread right? then there is no choice of land or soil type... u can make use of slope areas, plant on main roads, on roof tops, and on tiles so far ur crops are exposed to sunlight... u can import food loam soil from any where to the your desired space.... so the only condition for choosing your desired space is that it must be exposed to sun... question 1... I would give u a rough estimate for one plot of land then u can multiply to your desired number of plots u intend farming on... my estimate would be on a 50ft by 100ft measurement land space... on a plot u would need 1200 bags at which you would be planting 3600 seeds... DAT is 72grams... let's say u have a plot of land and water source this is the estimate u would need... seeds = #10k
bags sold at 2naira per bag or u can get it for free= #2k4

chemicals 10k
if u dont have soil u can get one trip of soil 8k
6k to fill it in and arrange it
6k for staking approximately 45k for aplot plus minus... and each 5grams can get u 2-3 bags... a bag could be 4k or 5k even more than... from that one plot u could get close to 30bags and u are making nothing less than 150k... sounds interesting right... we plant God gives the yield despite knowledge... missoptimist hope you are satisfied with my answers?

at the sight of make millions on the topic i know that it would attract lots of people to this thread, but it would not be disappointing to you if you can be patient to learn the most stress free methods of getting good money within 45-50days. The world is seeking for more stress free ways of actualizing greater yield... I have always gone through lots of crucibles maintaining a whole hectere of farm land, with lots of challenges to go through... ranging from the stress of clearing a whole hectere plus ploughing and ridging as if that stress is not enough you now come to prevent weeds after the pre-emergence herbiciding u would still end up battling with weeds at some point in time, God save you if you are using mulching films just to prevent the war with weeds... come to think of it using 150k just for weed control on a hecter of land or cost of paying people to weed your farm like 2-3 times...i made inquiry of leasing a hectare of land for a year, can you imagine the price to lease? as if I was buying the whole land, that would be a story for another day... you may have not farmed on a hectare of land to know that pesticiding a whole hectare is not funny, doing that at least every week just to mention a few stress found at managing a whole hecter of cucumber farm...
necessity they say is a mother of invention... though hard times too can make your dull brains think twice...
I read here on naira land about sack farming, I put it into practice but the ideas of minimizing stress came to mind as I grew and matured in the sack method I produced my first 200 cucumbers stress freely and I enjoyed it... the only stress you have is filling the bags... but as you go through this my piece of research you would discover that the stress of filling those bags with Sand is nothing compared to the stress u would get farming on a whole hectare... the cost of calling the tractor for clearing, ploughing, harrowing and ridging divide it into 5... give one part to workers who would fill the bags with good soil and say bye bye to lots of things I would mention at the cause of this piece. now let's talk about how to convert a 3plots to a hectare... hope some one is following my new tricks on how to make a million from 3plots of land farming cucumber

3 cucumber plants in one sack is not over crowded sir... of course its not wise to plant one seed per hole... two is OK and three is not bad... why the reason for the one foot space? so that at first on the ground there would be no inter struggle of manure within the roots of the crop planted per hole, since I am not letting my cucumbers crawl on the ground why do I get worried of overcrowding when I see my cukes climbing up wards... simple advice... if u are not planting in sacks neither are u staking that means u would allow ur crops crawl on the ground better don't space by one foot... u would give them 3 foot spacing so as to avoid over crowding... see pix of my plants and tell me if there is anything like over crowding
