Federal Government has given approval for the upgrading of the Nigeria Police Academy, in Wudil, Kano state , an institution that is designed to train cadet police officers, to a degree-awarding university in the bid to improve the quality and standard of police officers in the country.

Chairman, Police Service Commission (PSC), Mr. Parry Osayande, stated this yesterday in Asaba, Delta state capital, during a courtesy call on Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan, along with other members of the Commission. He said arrangements had been concluded as recommended by the project committee, for the smooth realisation and implementation of the scheme.

Osayande said the need to upgrade the Police Academy to a university level, stems from the need to reposition the Nigerian Police to meet the demands of the 21st century as the police has suffered a lot of wanton neglect in the hand of successive administrations. He added that this is the time the Nigerian Police should rank among the best in the world.

"Already, the Federal Government has approved that the Police Academy, in Wudil town, Kano, is going to be a degree- awarding university, the Commission is working out modalities to ensure the early completion of that project.

"We want a well managed police organisation, we want a civil Police organisation, a Police organisation that will be well armed, and the people will be well trained and retrained, a police organisation that will be well equipped with modern technologies, to fight crime, to be civil to members of the society and this is going to cost money, " he said

The federal government should hands off state policing. They should have a police service that would be responsibile for the setting up of state police service.

To do this the Federal police Service should immediately set the general prerequistite for any state government to have a state police.

1) A state police training school(This will train your weapon handlers)
2) A state police university( This will train your intelligentia Crime, scientist and Crime psychologist)
3) They must have Internal Affairs that will investigate the police service of the state
4) The Salary structure should start from $2000 with the state inculcating Housing, car mortgages and insurance into every Salary
5) The state would have a Police Equipment fund that police contractors would have access to for cars clothing weapons and communications equipment
6) There should be a Prerequisite that any person that wants to join the police service should have just one wife.

This is my 2 cents
