I have a 2001 Honda Civic, it's a manual tranny, I observed of late that when the car is on neutral or when the clutch is engaged the car idles between 1500-2100 rpm, now I have have to be shifting anyhow to avoid over-revving Abeg I need help Cc gazzuzz Kingreign Kashif Nurey autojosh 1 Like |

This same car a 2000 model dey my house now, kazeemised and throwing codes, I don't even know where to start. From your problem, I think you have a throttle body issue. But if your check engine light is on, scan the car, then fix the codes if it has to do with power train. But you can clean the throttle body and let's see how far. 1 Like |

youngice: Very simple, manual throttle body, idle speed valve stuck by excessive carbon buildup. Solution: remove throttle body, remove idle speed valve, buy a can of carb cleaner cleanout all the carbon, get a little engine oil, lubricate the idle valve bearing, put it back together, and she will run like new.(It's a she right?) It could also be a large intake leak, but for that you will hear a loud hissing sound from the intake side. ask your mech to adjust the air control switch attached to the throttle body in most cased like yours thats the culprit... 1 Like |

Scan your vehicle with a good OBD 2 scan tool for drivability codes. Possible causes include a defective Idle air control valve or wiring. Also check the TPS and wiring as well as your throttle cables. Check for vacuum leaks and carry out cleaning of your throttle body. Scanning your car first is important and will help direct you to where issues are and avoid guess work by your mechanic especially drivability problems in cars. 1 Like |

daxlasaint: Never ever adjust as suggested you will make things worse by masking the problem and it will burn fuel like crazy. All those small black hoses in the engine bay carry air check to see which one is cracked or disconnected. But the easiest thing is to inform us about what was the last thing worked on in the last one month that will narrow it down to the fault.Mechanics accidentally crack those hoses and the last area one worked one might help |

Emekayoung: GAZZUZZ:I took the car to the mechanic, I tried to explain all the things you guys told me, Oga no understand, I now showed him that picture, then all he did was to use his screwdriver to touch one place like this on the throttle body and the sound of the engine reduced. It's because issues like this I've been gunning for a car enthusiast group for active interaction of members that can provide real-time help to affected parties, the response time on nl is quite long 1 Like |

a civic strolled in today. (an old client) First take out the throttle body. www.nairaland.com/attachments/4726567_img20170111113326_jpeg24f3b00bf9fe2fb30b27e1a6178e289b I usually unnscrew the actuator first, to inspect if the valve is free to spin or stiff www.nairaland.com/attachments/4726574_img20170111114319_jpeg6cca481e6ef235419cdc8b603b2f2e12 This screws are stubborn so i had to improvise. www.nairaland.com/attachments/4726571_img20170111114311_jpegc3c728abbb8d678a6d85e86e2159b35a Turned valve tip and it is stiff. www.nairaland.com/attachments/4726581_img20170111114657_jpeged6cf73a9d777112869d7b05b7e05693 Opening valve area. www.nairaland.com/attachments/4726582_img20170111115119_jpegbee59fdbbb55bf50b21a44515f4ad46c There's a lot of carbon build up, a few bursts of carb cleaner and the valve moves freely. Don't forget to clean the butterfly too. www.nairaland.com/attachments/4726583_img20170111115225_jpeg7c3b98adc73eb24f16bfae45b182eb98 Rearrange all the parts back together, and car will behave fine. Don't forget to return butterfly adjuster back to its rest position, it's job is to ensure butterfly does not stick when in rest position, not for idle speed adjustment. |

Fixed the woman and she now idles like a proper lady, told the mechanic to unscrew and I emptied 2 cans of carb cleaner on her 1 Like
