He wiggled, jiggled and even dropped his trousers, but a thief trying to break into a supermarket in Portugal stayed stuck fast in a tiny window until he was rescued by police and the fire brigade.
"Apparently he dropped his trousers as he was trying to free himself by wiggling," Capt. Santos, local police chief in Loule in southern Portugal, told Reuters Monday.
He said the slim 22-year-old Romanian man had spent about 11 hours stuck in the window, including the two hours it took police and the fire brigade to get him out Sunday morning.
"Once he got his upper body inside, there was nothing there to find support on, so he was stuck at his waist, It's not uncommon for thieves to get inside and then not be able to get out after a burglary, but this was quite unusual," Santos said.

A 39-year-old Thousand Oaks man has been arrested for misdemeanor child annoyance after allegedly paying a teenager $31 to spit in his face.
Ventura County authorities say the man, whose name isn't being released, had been paying Westlake High School male students to yell profanities at him and slap and spit in his face.
Investigators say several teens also alleged the man offered them money to urinate and defecate on him.
The man connected with them through the MySpace social networking site.
He was booked into Ventura County Jail, then released on a promise to appear in court.
A motive was not clear.

FBI officials say an elderly, thin, gray-haired man nicknamed the "Geezer Bandit" is responsible for holding up five San Diego-area banks since summer.
Investigators say the man appears to be in his 70s. Officials say that in the most recent robbery Monday, he approached a Bank of America teller in La Jolla, displayed a handgun and asked for cash. He fled on foot.
FBI spokesman Darrell Foxworth says investigators believe the man is also responsible for robbing four other San Diego County banks since August 28.

Law enforcement officials are offering $16,000 in rewards for information that leads to his arrest and conviction.

A Michigan judge says a man who claims he was chased, shot and beaten by workers at a store he'd just robbed can sue the men. But only if he comes up with $10,000 within two weeks.
Scott T. Zielinski is serving an 8-year prison sentence after being convicted of unarmed robbery for the November 2007 heist at Nick's Party Stop in Clinton Township.
The 23-year-old filed a lawsuit against the store, its owner and three employees in April. Zielinski was shot twice and claims he was excessively beaten.

Circuit Judge David Viviano ruled this week that although Zielinski is indigent and imprisoned, he must post a $10,000 bond to cover the store and employees' attorneys fees if he looses the case.
Zielinski is seeking $125,000.

So he sent in a better picture of himself standing in front of a police van. The stunt could backfire, because the paper printed the photo on the front page.

IT'S WHAT GUYS CALL 'THE CHILLING EFFECT', A man having sex with another man's wife in her apartment in Chengdu, China, was stunned when her husband unexpectedly came home and started screaming at him. In his panic, he climbed out the window, but had to perch on the air conditioner as the apartment is on the third floor. A neighbor photographed him, and the picture went around the world. He was upset at "how I look naked, I must point out it was a very cold day."

Seattle police say a man who thought he was ninja was impaled on a metal fence when he tried to leap over it.
An officer who was looking for an assault victim Monday night heard the man screaming for help.
Police supported him to prevent further injuries until medics arrived and took him to a hospital, where he was in serious condition in intensive care on Tuesday.
Police spokeswoman Renee Witt wrote in a department website posting that officers thought the man might have been involved in the reported assault, but he insisted he was just a ninja trying to clear a 1.5 metre-tall fence.
Witt says the man was "overconfident in his abilities," and that alcohol likely played a role.
His name was not released.

PLEASANT HILL, Mo. (AP) - A woman who had been charged with child endangerment after almost 370 animals were seized from her Missouri farm has been placed on two years of unsupervised probation.

Gambriel is barred from caring for any children at the home or keeping more than three animals. She is due in court on Nov. 25 to face 13 misdemeanor charges related to animal abuse.

COLUMBIA, S.C. - When an ambulance brought Tillmon Webb home from the hospital after he hurt his knee in March, paramedics warned the then 550-pound (250-kilogram) man he probably wouldn't be able to get up from his recliner if they put him there, his wife said.
Webb told them to leave him there anyway. He would sit in that recliner, slowly dying, for the next eight months. Finally, paramedics were called back to his Greenwood home on Wednesday because he was in a lot of pain.
Webb's body was physically stuck to the power recliner and firefighters had to cut him from the chair to take him to the hospital. He died a few hours later, his body covered with sores and a "very bad odour," according to a police report.
Webb, 33, didn't ask for help for all those months, because he was ashamed and didn't have health insurance, said his wife, Ada. He slept and used the bathroom in his chair and she cleaned it every day. The former preacher would post sermons online from the chair, and it wasn't long before he decided he was ready to go home to the Lord, she said.
"After he sat there in that one spot for a week, he was embarrassed. It was like he already knew what was going to happen," Ada Webb said.
Webb's mother was the one who placed the final call to paramedics. Not only did crews have to cut apart the chair, but they had to cut a hole in the wall of the couple's mobile home about 70 miles west of Columbia to get him out. A police report said he weighed about 800pounds (360 kilograms), but his wife said he was closer to 500 pounds (225 kilograms).
The hospital told Tillmon Webb's wife he died from a heart attack, she said. The coroner's office isn't investigating the death and referred all questions to Greenwood County deputies, who sent their report, but didn't respond to a phone message.
Webb died on the couple's second anniversary. They met four years ago on MySpace, and Ada Webb said she didn't see a man who weighed more than 500 pounds, but instead saw a guy who loved the Lord and had a big heart.

A seven-year-old boy who can only communicate by chirping after his mother raised him as a pet bird has been rescued by Russian care-workers.
Reports in Russian media claim the child, suffering from "Mowgli syndrome", was found in a tiny two-room apartment that appeared to double as an aviary, filled with cages containing dozens of birds, bird feed and bird droppings.
Social worker Galina Volskaya, who helped rescue the "bird-boy" from his home in Kirovsky, Volgograd, told Russian newspaper Pravda that he was treated like another pet by his 31-year-old mother.
Because she never spoke to him, Ms Volskaya explained, the boy's only communication was with the birds he was surrounded by.
"When you start talking to him," she said, "he chirps."
Russian authorities say the child was not physically harmed but is suffering from "Mowgli syndrome", named after the Jungle Book character raised by wild animals, and cannot engage in any normal human communication.

Pravda reported: "(His mother) had her own domestic birds and fed wild ones. (She) neither beat him nor left him without food. She just never talked to him. It was all the birds that communicated with the boy and taught him birds' language.
"He just chirps and when realising that he is not understood, starts to wave hands in the way birds winnow wings."
The boy is temporarily living in an asylum, but soon will be transferred to a centre of psychological care, according to reports.
His mother signed an abdication form to release him into care after he was discovered last week.
Though admittedly unusual, the case is not without precedent.
In February 2006, social workers took three weeks to catch a four-year-old "wolf-boy" discovered living on the streets with a pack of stray dogs and cats in the Stavropol region of southern Russia. Arthur Zverev barked and ran on all fours.

And in January 2007, a Cambodian woman named Rochom P'ngieng was found wandering naked in the jungle, unable to speak after living among animals since she disappeared from home aged eight.

This incredible picture shows a huge spider devouring a bird in the backgarden of a bemused onlooker.
And experts say the snap is REAL.
The photo, thought to have been taken earlier this week, shows the spider clenching its legs around a lifeless bird trapped in a web at a home near Atherton, west of Cairns, in Australia.
Joel Shakespeare, the head spider keeper at Australian Reptile Park, said the spider was a golden orb weaver.
"Normally they prey on large insects, it's unusual to see one eating a bird," he said.
Mr Shakespeare said he had seen golden orb weaver spiders as big as a HUMAN HAND but the northern species in tropical areas can grow even larger.
But he added: "It wouldn't eat the whole bird."
Mr Shakespeare said the bird, a chestnut-breasted mannikin is likely to have flown into the web, and got stuck.

TERRIFIED locals in a South American town are running scared after a strange creature they describe as "Gollum" crawled out of a lake and charged schoolkids.
The beast - which has "sparked fear and confusion" in the small town of Cerro Azul, Panama -was spotted on Saturday when four 14 to 16-year-olds were playing by the waterfront.
According to their account, reported by Panamanian news service Telemetro, the youngsters "screamed" when the five-foot creature emerged from a cave and started clambouring over rocks towards them "as if to attack them".
In a "desperate bid to defend themselves" the four terrified boys said they hurled rocks at the strange creature to kill it, before throwing its corpse in the water and running away.
Their disbelieving parents returned to the lake the following day - and were stunned to discovered the beast's body washed up on the shore.

Experts have yet to examine the images - or make any statements regarding their discovery.

But locals told Panama news channels, who ran the story, that the water-monster was "Gollum from Lord of the Rings".
One said: "I have only seen that creature once before -and it was in the Tolkien film."
The fictional Gollum -originally known as Smeagol - was a hobbit whose later name was derived from the "disgusting gurgling, choking cough he made".
JRR Tolkien - who wrote the Middle Earth adventures - said of the character: "He had become deformed and twisted in both body and mind by the corruption of the Ring.
"His only desire was to possess the Ring which had enslaved him, and he pursued it for many years after he lost it."

A PYTHON has devoured a woman's dog - including the pet's collar and name tag.
Patty Buntine's three-year-old Maltese terrier-cross Bindi disappeared from her home in Australia's Northern Territory.
Ms Buntine said she was worried when the 12-and-a-half pound dog failed to show up for her usual breakfast.
"She was always there so I got worried and went to look for her," she said.
"I went around the side of the house and that's when I found the snake. It couldn't move and had its head up in a striking position."
"It's belly was bulging - it looked like a great big coconut was inside it.
"I knew straight away that it had ate Bindi."

Patients with the syndrome - artificial urticaria -discover that words stay on their skin if they gently write on themselves using a fingernail.
One sufferer being studied is Chinese grandmother Huang Xiangji - whose body is covered in poems and notes.
The 50-year-old - dubbed 'The Paper Woman' - says her condition comes in "very useful" as she can use her arms to write shopping lists.
Weird
Stunned skin specialists at the Chinese Medical Association say the disorder "has no ill effects -even though it is very weird."
When Huang, of Chendu, China, writes a word on her skin using a finger, the letters protrude from her skin a moment later.
She yesterday said: "I have used my body as a notebook for years. It is useful when it comes to writing a shopping list.
"I don't ever need to hunt around for a pen and paper."
Sandra Hsu, of the Chinese Medical Association, said the skin disorder urticaria was common - but the form where sufferers can write on themselves was "very rare."

Bello, the Nigerian Chimp Boy was found in 1996, at the age of about two. Both mentally and physically disabled, he had probably been abandoned by his parents at the age of about six months, a common practice with disabled children among the Fulani, a nomadic people who range great distances over the west African Sahel region.
Raised by Chimpanzees?
Believed to have been adopted and raised by chimpanzees, Bello was found with a chimpanzee family in the Falgore forest, 150 km south of Kano in northern Nigeria. When the story reached the news agencies some six years later in 2002, Bello had been living at the Tudun Maliki Torrey home in Kano.

When first discovered, Bello walked like a chimpanzee, using his legs but dragging his arms on the ground. He would leap about at night in the dormitory, disturbing the other children, smashing and throwing things. Six years later Bello was much calmer, but would still leap around in a chimpanzee-like fashion, make chimpanzee-like noises, and clap his cupped hands over his head repeatedly.
Bello died in 2005.

GOLDSBORO, North Carolina (AP) - Administrators have nixed a North Carolina middle school's cash-for-grades fundraiser.
The News & Observer of Raleigh reported Wednesday that Wayne County school administrators have halted the plan at Rosewood Middle School in Goldsboro.
The school was offering 20test points to students in exchange for a $20 donation. Rosewood principal Susie Shepherd had said that she approved the idea after a parent advisory council presented it as a way to raise money. Shepherd rejected the suggestion that extra points on two tests could make a difference in a final grade.
School district administrators said no extra credit will be awarded and that any donated money will be returned.

BROMONT, Quebec - A Canadian woman on sick leave for depression said today she would fight an insurance company's decision to cut her benefits after her agent found photos on Facebook of her vacationing, at a bar and at a party.
Nathalie Blanchard said Monday she was diagnosed with major depression and was receiving monthly sick-leave benefits until payments dried up this fall.
When Blanchard called her insurance provider, Manulife, to find out why, she says she was told the Facebook photos showed she was able to work.

"If you have insurance, be careful. This is a major battle and it's not going to be easy," Blanchard, 29, said in a telephone interview from her home in Bromont Quebec.
She said her insurance agent described several pictures Blanchard posted on Facebook, including ones showing her having a good time at a Chippendales bar show, at her birthday party and on a holiday.

Manulife told her it was evidence she is no longer depressed.
Her lawyer, Tom Lavin, said Blanchard was wrongfully dismissed from her benefits, and she had the right to go on a sunny vacation.
"The issue for me is that they stopped her disability benefits without the proper medical recommendations. Her doctor recommended she go on vacation," he said.
Blanchard said she took three four-day trips when she was feeling especially low, on her psychiatrist's advice.
Manulife declined to comment on the case specifically but has said in a statement that "we would not deny or terminate a valid claim solely based on information published on Web sites such as Facebook."
Still, Lavin said the issue raises concerns for anyone who expects their private life to remain so if they post personal information to social networking sites such as Facebook.

BEAUMONT - Emergency personnel in Beaumont rescued a man from a garbage truck where he apparently was dumped along with mounds of trash, according to a broadcast report.
The man was conscious when he was seen being rescued Monday morning after the driver called 911 to report someone was yelling for help from inside the trash truck.
Donovan Weldon with Triangle Waste says the driver had been picking up commercial waste. Weldon says the man who was rescued apparently is homeless and had been sleeping in a bin.
The driver told KFDM-TV that the contents of at least three other bins had been emptied into the truck and compacted by the time the man was discovered.

A Tunisian woman is set to break the world record for the most number of babies delivered by a mother as she was confirmed to be pregnant with a dozen babies.
The female teacher from Gafsa in central Tunisia is expecting six boys and six girls, according to Dr. Mark Hamilton, of the British Fertility Society.
The woman underwent fertility treatment after a number of miscarriages. Her condition is good, media reports said on Tuesday.
Doctors believe it would be impossible for the woman to deliver the babies normally.
Nadya Suleman of Bellflower, California currently holds the record for delivering the most number of babies at eight. The octuplet mom conceived also through fertility treatment.

EDINBURG - A police department's gift of fruit to a Texas prison turned out to contain 25 pounds of marijuana.
The illegal harvest that was missed in an earlier search was discovered by inmates at the Segovia Unit unpacking the crate.
Edinburg police Chief Ruirino Munoz says the fruit originally came from a produce truck that also had about 1,000 pounds of pot that was confiscated.
Loads of legitimate produce that are found to have yielded drugs are often barred from being sent on to the intended location.
Munoz says the Segovia Unit near Edinburg accepts such food donations, which are inspected by police before being sent to the prison. Munoz says this time the additional marijuana apparently was missed by officers and drug-sniffing dogs.
Prison spokesman Jason Clark says inmates who reported finding the drug on Friday were strip-searched to make sure nobody kept any of the marijuana.

The mystery of crop circles in poppy fields in Australia's southernisland state of Tasmania has been solved -- stoned wallabies are eatingthe poppy heads and hopping around in circles.
"We have a problem with wallabies entering poppy fields, getting ashigh as a kite and going around in circles," the state's top lawmakerLara Giddings told local media on Thursday.
"Then they crash. We see crop circles in the poppy industry from wallabies that are high," she said.

Many people believe crop circles that mysteriously appear in fields around the world are created by aliens.
Poppy producer Tasmanian Alkaloids said livestock which ate thepoppies were known to "act weird" --including deer and sheep in thestate's highlands.
"There have been many stories about sheep that have eaten some ofthe poppies after harvesting and they all walk around in a daze" said Rick Rockliff, manager of operations.
Australia produces about 50 percent of the world's raw material for morphine and related opiates.
