Senegal to host Gambia’s president-elect until swearing-in

ON JANUARY 15, 2017

Senegal will host Gambian president-elect Adama Barrow until his swearing-in ceremony, the state-owned Senegalese news agency APS reported Sunday. The swearing-in is due to take place on Thursday, but outgoing President Yahya Jammeh has challenged the result of the Dec. 1 election at the Supreme Court.

Barrow arrived in Dakar shortly after midnight on Sunday, APS quoted an unnamed official source as saying. Gambia Opposition candidate, Adama Barrow The agency said Senegalese President Macky Sall had accepted to host Barrow at the request of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) at a Franco-African summit in the Malian capital Bamako on Saturday. ECOWAS had set Thursday as a deadline to try to resolve the Gambian political crisis, Radio France Internationale earlier quoted Togolese President Faure Gnassingbe as saying.

Jammeh’s refusal to concede defeat has sparked fears of violence in the West African country. Barrow attended the Franco-African summit, while Jammeh was absent, following talks between ECOWAS mediators and both leaders in Gambia on Friday.

A statement from Barrow’s office said Jammeh’s meeting with Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari and other ECOWAS representatives was “unproductive.” The talks with ECOWAS came several hours after Gambia’s ruling party filed a motion with the Supreme Court to prevent Barrow from being sworn into office on Jan. 19.

ECOWAS earlier pledged to send troops to ensure a peaceful transition of power if Jammeh persists in his refusal to step down after ruling Gambia with an iron fist for more than two decades. National science teachers association

Swearing in to where? grin

Yahya Jammeh's refusal to relinquish power to Adama Barrow (A traitor & an Amerikan Stooge) was hinged on 1 thing only.

Gambia's Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) was manipulated by Amerika into falsely declaring Adama Barrow as the winner of the elections.

IEC had caused confusion by declaring 2 different results with the original margin of victory by Adama Barrow being 35,000 votes over Yahya Jammeh.

IEC later revised the result “on the same day” and still declared Adama Barrow the winner but narrowing down his lead by 19,000 votes out of over 800,000 registered voters.

This was what raised the red flag over the IEC’s counting competence, hence Jammeh's refusal to concede defeat.

For this reason, I stand by Jammeh for rejecting the election results.

Buhari & the Senegalese President (Macky Sall) can both swear-in Adama Barrow into their respective state houses if they like.

Perhaps, since the white house is still vacant, they can just do the needful by transferring Adama Barrow to Washington - their cup of tea! grin

Tight-sitting has killed many including Gbagbo. The outgoing president will learn by experience if he refuses to vacate office

The Gambia's political system needs reform after this. If the president can fire Supreme Court judges. If the Judges at important even like this won't have emergency meeting to hear case. If their National Assembly won't impeach him.

They need outside assistance just so they don't devlove into civil war. Honestly they should be talking about root of the problem instead of symptoms.

ECOWAS should and must give a display of force since it's the only language Jammeh understands.

That's the root cause of racism. How do we expect to be loved when blacks don't even love each other?

Imagine the tensed atmosphere that is disrupting social activities in Gambia now, the more reason Nigerians should appreciate Goodluck Jonathan's concession of defeat in 2015.

Please stop this childish Goodluck nonsense. He dared not tried it then, his would have been worst than anything. Majority of Nigerian were tired of him then and wanted him out even by force if possible
