While many people are groaning about unemployment, some people are groaning about over-employment!
Now that's a good problem!

May we never be problem free but may it be of the good kind.

But dude, that's sad. Something wrong with your network or what? Nigeria is crawling with php coders, so how come a job in the most popular language in 9ja could go unattended to due to lack of talent!
Is there a shortage of php programmers in nigeria?

There are shortage of competent developer in Nigeria, not in PHP alone. Either occuppied, or over booked

Get Market Demanded Skill, there are plenty of programming job out there.
The only problem I am having with job posters is that they want the best of service but can't afford to pay.
So I resort to writing my own software and work for ready to pay (Good Pay) clients alone. Its not easy to write code undecided

Unfortunately, the client was ready to pay good. I had to outsource the job to an Indian developer who charged $2000+ dollars, and client has already started paying - the client is not even naija based to start with.
I would have done the job myself (actually started, but could not finish since i have too much things on my hands at the moment) - so there goes an opportunity that would have enriched someone's pocket.

Maybe,If you had put the price(or range) in the title, some seriously motivated person wouldve learnt php in a day or two and executed it!!! - C'mon, we should start sharing in this outsourcing dollars flying around. Not only indians, chinese and philipinnos. I believe many intermediates here wouldve taken it up. Anyway, going by the nature, it mustve been a big project.

This kind of work requires a person to be a magento plugin specialist, it is not those kind of turns that you turn ninja overnight. If it were, do you not think I would have done it myself ni?
As per putting the price, I dont want just anyone to take the stuff because my reputation is at stake - if a company turns to me for help, and I recommend someone that failed to do it, it could ruin my reputation - and i just cant take that risk.

Is it even possible to turn to a PHP ninja overnight?
Re: Paid Job: A Magento 2.0 Plugin Developer Is Required For A Quick Job [Closed] by asalimpo(m): 9:59pm On Jan 22, 2017
I get what you saying. The lesson in it is to prepare and know your stuff very well, first, because you never know when the big opportunity will come knocking. It could be any tech, just get very good at it. I believe they're opportunities flying out there for jobs in other languages and frameworks and going unfulfilled because generally, in programming world, there's a shortage of decent workers. But honestly, it's a shame sha. Nigeria is php land, and yet no one could handle that! See money just dey go to other countries! How much is india reaping from i.t outsourcing sef, last i heard, they rake more than (i think 10x) nigeria's gross revenue!! Kai! what a shame.
Re: Paid Job: A Magento 2.0 Plugin Developer Is Required For A Quick Job [Closed] by Nobody: 7:57am On Jan 23, 2017
There was a very big opportunity i missed last year to India again, reason: the client has lost hope in our developers. When i came on-board, the client asked if I have like 10 good developers that work closely with me - i had to say the truth - No (and that was the end of the opportunity).
That client believed the job could never be done without having a standby group of developers.

One thing that always pain me in our way of work here is that we (developers) do not help ourselves, and do not even network properly.

Here is an example: I outsourced like 6 jobs like week, till now only 3 developers have been giving updates, the other 3 guys have been silent.
And all the clients are going to start asking for updates today, and me i no fit beg anybody.

One advantage that I have is that I never take any job that I cannot do (unless i happen to get too busy), so as a last resort i might have to beg the client for more time and eventually do it myself (this is a common story).

However, if I have outsourced all the 6 jobs to Indian developers, I am very sure that I will have better results (from personal experience). This is very bad for our developers.

Most of my resources online, free stuffs, codes and all that seem to be used more by indian developers than our own developers.

These are many reasons that you guys should put into consideration, so no one should complain that the Indian developers are getting more opportunities.

The fact is this, an Indian developer with half of my skills will make x 10 of what i make in india because other guys will network with him, he will therefore have a faster delivery time (hence more money).

But here, no way, I had to let some good opportunities go this year because i was scared that if i take some of those jobs, i wont have manpower to handle them.

If i start sharing stories of how many many nairalanders have disapointed me, you guys will think I hate nairaland programmers - but it is not so.

Looking forward, I intentionally delayed the completion/launch of the new Nairaland to do some stuffs. The new africoder's main feature will be a place where people can actually outsource jobs reliably and get them completed - the structure will be similar to fiver, freelancer etc but it will be different in some ways too (because this is Nigeria). I need to take some special measures first before I launch (i no wan enter wahala).

It means you're not putting yourself out there the developers who don't get jobs are bad developers or devs who work own their companies.

Same here I've rejected jobs because I cant sully my name. Although some clients themselves are not serious

The problem has to do with bunches of incompetent developers floating around with big office but with sweet mouth.

My plan for 2017, I am forming a directory of developers (with ) with their skillsets so that I can test them out as jobs come around.
So for you guys that might be interested, you can send me the following:

- full name, phone number, email
- nairaland moniker (if any)
- skillset (please mention areas that are good at and that you can really deliver a job - dont mention languages that you are a newbie in)

send to support (at) Nairaland (dot) com

Right now, I need someone that can do a professional and fast hybrid mobile app (android and ios) for a dating website (if you think you can, please send me an email at the same address)

how do i go about this embarassed

1. Go for Dev conference and meetings e.g forloop/cchub and others
2. The fastest way is write a lot of blogs on small projects and complicated things, trust me alot of people will come across your blog
3. Join a community Google Lagos GDG or even via meetup
4. Follow Developers on tweet and maintain a good relationship with them even iirc, facebook and others, trust me when jobs come you will be in mind
5. Contirbute to an open source project this will expose you, i contributed to Processwire to import WordPress Comments to the cms and it was mentioned on their site and even ImpressPages i wrote a tutorial for them which people still send me mail on to ask questions.

Once you do this, you will start to be on people's radar, please anytime you do this, blog about it and spread everywhere. all the best bro.

Below are things that helped me to become really popular:
- I used to contribute to dynamicdrive.com back then (wrote some really interesting open-source scripts)
- Before the hard-working spam bot took over nairaland, I used to write a lot of tutorials, and did some blogging too
- I use to PH for many developers for free when i have time - just you post a javaScript problem or php problem on nairaland and see the speed i will use to solve them (I do this on many places even outsource nairaland)
- One time I used to solve issues on yahooanswers and some other places
- I have helped many developers on whatsapp and facebook to solve bugs for free
- I write some free stuffs on github
- When i am in the mood, I write some free softwares like the phpbrowserbox and just put it somewhere online
- Lets leave Nairaland.com alone for now, the upgraded version should be out very soon - let me finish my corporate affairs registration before i launch that one

As a result of all the above, most people that fall into any of those categories above can easily vouch for me that I am a good developer and know what i am doing.
