The three services were involved. The landing beach contingents sailed to the harbour in small gunboats belonging to the Nigerian Navy. They troops came from three naval mother warships - NNS KYANWA, NNS OBULA & NNS NWAMBA – stationed in the Atlantic Ocean. And the three warships, in addition to acting as amphibious troops, softened the beach front base of ‘enemy’ positions. The troops, drawn from a Brigade of the Nigerian Army, had stayed for three days aboard the three naval cat-class warships. The vessels had spent 15 hours for the journey from Lagos to the exercise area.

The assault troops, brought in by naval assault ships, landed at the beach front, taking positions. This is as resistance continued from the enemy positions. Waves of amphibious forces continued to beach land, to support earlier troops. Two NAF MI-35 helicopter gunships landed near the enemy positions, inserting Special Forces troops. Following the successful insertions, the Special Forces joined the amphibious forces in routing the enemy troops from own positions, forcing them to withdraw. And with the island successfully captured and held by the Infantry troops, the administrative elements were given support as the amphibious gunships maintained patrol in the waters.

Is this thread made to commend the work that the middle belters Nigerians are doing in foreign countries, or is it to boost our egos by showing as much killing machines as Nigeria has obtained, no offense but a lot of people are delusional.

A company of 110 infantrymen- the first element of the 776-strong 26th mechanised infantry battalion(a unit of 1 Mechanised Brigade, Sokoto) - boards a United Nations aircraft, 16 August 2003, at Sultan Abubakar International Airport in the northern city of Sokoto, Nigeria to take off for war-torn Monrovia. The Sokoto battallion will double the size of ECOMIL's Nigerian lead element, and is much needed to ensure the control of Monrovia as the city takes its first shaky steps towards peace.

GROUND ZERO--THE EAGLES HAVE LANDED, IN A BLAZE OF GLORY!
Nigerian soldiers of the ECOMIL (West African peacekeeping force) take control of one of Monrovia's two bridges 14 August 2003. West African peacekeepers took control of Monrovia's port 14 August to allow food and desperately needed relief supplies into the Liberian capital as the new president traveled to Ghana for peace talks with rebel leaders. About 200 US Marines flew into Liberia including a 150-strong rapid reaction force to shore up the Nigerian-led peace force that began deploying in the west African country 10 days ago.

Sorry bro,but Nigeria has the largest population in africa and its second largest economy
A country like that has to have a strong and up to date military force
and the nigerian military recruits equally from all the states of the federation,at least since the return of democracy 10yrs ago(this i know for a fact)
so your middlebelt talk is misplaced here
give the troops some props
its easy to come online and talk rubbish like a lot of you nairalanders do
its a different ballgame when u are being shot at in darfur, liberia, somalia or even the niger delta

Aircraft rehabilitation in Nigeria saved N1bn — Petirin
Latest News Nov 25, 2009

NEWS
By Kingsley Omonobi

ABUJA—Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Oluseyi Petirin justified yesterday, the in-country repairs and rehabilitation of Airforce aircraft within the country since he took over the helm of affairs of the NAF, saying that in the last nine months, the Nigeria Airforce has saved the country over N1billion that would have gone abroad.

Petirin made the disclosure even as he noted that the NAF would from next year, begin the training of helicopter pilots both for military operations and civil purposes with a view to not only reducing the huge cost of going abroad for training but also empowering Airforce instructors who are qualified to do the job.

The Air Chief who was speaking at the decoration of 33 Airforce Generals newly promoted including six Air Vice Marshals and 27 Air Commodores, disclosed that as a result of the arrival of the F-7 fighter jets ordered by the Federal Government, the rehabilitation of G222 medium range carriers, purchase of the Avister 109 helicopters, and the ATR Maritime aircraft, flying operations would increase in the force adding, very soon, all our pilots would become very busy.
