The average Nigerian mentality is something else. The youths between ages 15 to 60 need the right orientation. Many careless about the coming generation.

Abolish state of origin. Make it possible for any Nigerian to vote and be voted for in any part of the country !
Re: Give Reasonable Suggestions On How Nigeria Can Be Great Again by Nobody: 5:00pm On Jan 20, 2017
Honestly I am ashamed of being a Nigerian and am seriously considering changing citizenship.

We allow our politicians get away with too much. They will embezzle and steal obscene amounts of money while in power and then when it's time for second term elections they start mingling with masses and buying roasted corn by the side of the road.
After all the nonsense posturing Nigerians will still line up under hot sun and freezing rain to re elect them, maybe cos they belong to the same tribe as the politician.

I hate this country so much.

Another thing is that it's not only politicians the are corrupt. Ordinary citizens are nothing to write home about. From conductors in buses that will hold your change after collecting money hoping you will forget it with them after getting down to the human resources agents that want 50% of your salary for the first few months of your doing the job they helped you get.

A very catastrophic event to wipe out the whole of Africa would not be a bad thing because they are not contributing jackshit to the rest of the world.

The question is this: what makes a country great? Is it by building bridges, world class roads and high-rise building or employment indices or increasing population?

I think it lies with everyone to make this country great. We should not expect one Messiah to come and make a magic. Without each individual changing from 'within' nothing will happen. Only another round of empty promises.

For example, each person should make a commitment not a lie in everything he says or do. He should endeavor to be faithful in his every dealings with another person. This alone would bring a mighty change.

An average student in the Nigerian university thinks that to 'help' his friends in the examination hall is a normal thing. He doesn't even know that ordinary talking while writing test is corruption. Yet, he would be the first to rain abuses on governors for exploiting workers.

This student and his friends would after school life obtain form to be a senator. Is it not predictable that they would cheat to amass wealth for themselves?

It is now a norm that you pay for slot to get government Jobs. A lot of people are willing to pay, yet, they complain of bad leadership. They do not know they are encouraging corruption by paying such illicit money to get their way. These very people go to churches and mosques.

If I say this in public, I should quickly get a cover for protection for fear of my life because we have all lost the sense of truth. Yet, we complain when the evil consequences of our actions fall back on the society and directly on us.

We deceive ourselves thinking that everyone else is doing the detestable and that our own misstep, wrong action, is so small that it could not affect anyone seriously.

Many parents now know about miracle centre. They tacitly and, in most cases, openly support their wards to be assisted to pass exams. They will also join the masses to complain of corruption in high places. They are well spoken when analysing the mistakes and wrong doings of all others.

There is no magic anywhere. We are all culpable in this sorry state. Let's first of all change at our own small level and we will experience miracle. It lies in our hands.

Revolution which is not backed with sound objectives is no REVOLUTION...

The Power to change this country to our desired taste lies with the citizens....
Lee Kuan Yu and Former Chinese leader succeeded because the citizens were ready to support the government but in Nigeria's case the reverse is what is happening ....

For this country to move, here my suggestion

1. Old and present evil cabals should be burnt to death beyond recognition

2. Death penalty to those who are involved in corrupt practices such as stealing, embezzlement, budget paddling, funds diversification, etc.

3. True federalism where every region should control their resources.

4. Unity

5. Nigerian mentality needs to change, we are too corrupt.

I agree with all your points except 2, maximum penalty won't solve our problem. Maybe a lifetime sentence will suffice.

- Improve the quality of our education system.
- Investment in mechanized farming.
- Removal of immunity clause.
- Four years single term for all political office holders.

1. Solve power supply issues by any known means. Epileptic power supply is the single biggest hindrance to Nigeria's industrialisation and industrialisation (not even agriculture) is the key to Nigeria's prosperity. It doesn't matter if the FG borrows the entire $30 billion and sinks it into power supply. But unlike in the past, they should do it right this time. For instance, investing in solar power although expensive (twice the price of gas plants), it comes with the advantage that from conception to completion of the projects can be achieved within 12 months. Another advantage is the almost zero operating cost as compared to gas plants where gas has to be bought and would never be delivered.

2. Fix our petroleum refining capacity. If Nigeria can stop importing petroleum products today, we would be saving over 60% of our forex and this alone would return the Naira to N150/$. I totally envy whoever would be Nigeria's president from 2019 when Dangote's refinery would come on stream. There would be an instant turn around in the economic fortunes of the country and as usual, whoever is the president by then would claim the glory as 'body language.' grin

Beautiful comment..well said well said
Re: Give Reasonable Suggestions On How Nigeria Can Be Great Again by Cavenchy(m): 5:26pm On Jan 20, 2017
It is appalling that there are very few who even know the root of our problems in Nigeria

Our problems are obvious but also quite simple to solve. We just lack people with vision.

1. Uncontrolled Economic Migrants : The fact a black man speaks pidgin doesn't make them Nigerian, economic migrants flying into Nigeria and not returning home afterwards is the Number one problem with Nigerian economy. For every illegal immigrant living within the shores of Nigeria un-deported, citizens would continue to struggle for the jobs, health-care and what little amenities that remain.

Countries secure their borders and have a national citizens database for a reason. You don't walk into a First world country and open a shop on the streets. Why do economic migrants troop into Nigeria tear their country's passport, change name, learn a local language and run to Nigerian Immigration Office to get a Nigerian passport? How many Nigerian citizens even have passports? If you think there are no Illegal migrants in Nigeria ask the next man on the streets to recite the National pledge. Trump isn't stupid for wanting to build a wall. Enlightened Americans knew the dangers of illegal immigration and stood behind Trump. This is our Country, if we do not protect it, we can not develop.

Budgets are made but what statistics were taken? How do they know who among the people in any region is even a Nigerian? You can not develop a nation if you do not know who your citizens are. Economic migrants most times do not care about the country, they are here for money and economic gain only, they do not share the ideals of a fellow Nigerian, they would litter the streets, vandalise public property and start families that wouldn't share the same ideals, leading to an increase in the number of mouths the nation would have to feed. Why are we the most populous country in Africa? are we more fertile or promiscuous than other African Nations? This situation can be likened to a school, If you are a principal and you plan an excursion for 40 children, by the time you arrange transport you would discover there are actually 80 children. Where did the other 40 come from? How do you cater for 80 on a budget for 40?

If anyone wishes to be a Nigerian citizen, they should follow legal procedure like its done in other countries, they would be scrutinised to ensure they understand our goals as a country and that they would follow it before granted. No citizen who has an entire extended family spread across different states of the country would be negligent of the fact their public actions could affect a family member somewhere. Make Nigerian Borders safe again, create a database that enables us account for every citizen, no more illegals.

2. Non-existent National Database : How do you combat corruption if perpetrators who get caught, go on with their businesses unstigmatized? How do you stop top officials from being corrupt when those at the bottom who help them are not discouraged by the fear of the ex-convict stigma? An active national database is required to keep track of every person's credibility. People who have been incarcerated should be identifiable via a database by HRs when they show up for job interviews, by parents when seeking a child carer, by investors when seeking to make an investment, by the people when seeking to elect leaders. Crime would be grossly reduced and people would be less likely to engage in corruption. All of these would not be possible without the convenience of an easily accessible database, a well organised home address system and well documented birth and death records. You might be able to talk your way out of a situation with a corrupt police officer or judge, but you can never convince a computerised automated system to not do what its programmed to.

3. Epileptic Power Supply: How do you expect investors to come to the country when it would cost them more money to run the business in one day than it would to run the same business in a month anywhere else in the world? No business sets out to lose, its a business. Those fortune 500 companies are never gonna set foot in Nigeria as long as steady power is an issue. If investment doesn't come in, infrastructural development is still wishful thinking, till power is stabilized and made 24 hours. If this is accomplished, more people would visit Nigeria to talk business and this would automatically lead to more infrastructure and employment, all of which would be done by the private investors and not even requiring government expenses.

4. Negligent use of Media: Every country needs a dream goal or an aspiration for its citizens, and this ideology needs to be publicized aggressively. Nigeria has an enlightenment problem, one that is eating deep into the morality of many. How can a government exist without sponsoring heroes that our young and upcoming could look up to? What happens to the few who do really heroic things in our society? Does anyone recognise them? Do we have a similar event like the Nobel Price, where honourable Nigerians who have done heroic things or have made new inventions are honoured for their hard work? Or do such people end up in the long queues of Pensioners denied pay? I tell you what? the young are following in our footsteps and see all that is happening. If the calibre of people who are recognised by the country are criminals with ill gotten wealth, what do you think the children would wanna be when they grow up? well your guess is as good as mine.

5. Misplaced Priorities in our learning institutions: People talk about studying useless courses in our institutions, but are they really useless? The reason anyone would say that, is because the Nigerian government has not done enough to ensure an industry exists for the graduates we churn out from our teaching and learning institutions. What are our ideals as Nigerians, what problems do we actually have collectively as a nation and how much have we invested in robust Research & Development using our institutions to ensure these are tackled? How many course-specific scholarships are offered to encourage young students to partake in specific courses that are very vital to solve our short term problems and long term aspirations? Why does the Nigerian government allow people to pay fees and not make policies that would enable these students find jobs for whatever they studied. If whatever courses students study in tertiary institutions has no industry for nation building, why is it still in the curriculum?

1. Fix power
2. Support manufacturing industries with capital to produce and be cheaper than imported goods
3. Let all the refinery be working and then the problems of petrol, diesel etc is over
4. Create avenue for youth to be trained in skill acquisition and support them with the machinery they need to be on their own
5. Beg or force all our looters to bring the money to this country
6. All the money collected from looters according to Buhari and the money in single account should be used to fix our infrastructures
7. Covert some higher institution to teach skill and provide resources to establish graduate
8. Create an enabling environment for small entrepreneurs to survive etc
